Hey everyone, so I’ve been obsessed with customs lately and have been stocking up more and more onto my USB Flash Drive and having a blast playing every single one, great job to everyone!
However, on some songs there might be an audio issue which sounds the same every time (so no variety from that specific audio problem).
It’s always that the sound is like very low on the left speaker and a very corrupted audio line on the right speaker – but only on very rare occasions.
For example some songs that I know just from my mind are
Warmen – Beyond Abilities
System of a Down – This Cocaine makes me feel like I’m on this song
and several others. (Out of 600 I would say 15 tops.)
I have no idea what causes this because 95% of my other stuff is completly fine. I tried reapplying these customs and redownloading them but with no success.
I hope there might be an answer to this since I haven’t found any other thread that describes this sort of audio glitch on some songs.
Also the fact that these songs (on the newest versions) get no negative feedback in the threads make me wonder what that might be.
EDIT!: I made a clip how it sounds like to clarify it further! https://vid.me/pdAc
You can see that the game audio is normal while the music is not. I have looked into the files with the audio checker C3 tool aswell and both speakers have the same waves and no corruptions whatsoever.
Thank you in advance!
March 27, 2016 at 9:46 pm #466020Yup, it’s a known bug when you compile a song with a certain amount of channels, authors have to add a silent crowd track to prevent this.
So it’s definitely not on your end, but you can notify the authors about it when you encounter this bug. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />
I’ll fix mine since I was the one behind the convert of System of a Down – This Cocaine makes me feel like I’m on this song. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />

Thanks for this answer! Because the certain customs haven’t gotten any notification about it from the downloader/players or negative feedback so I thought it was my fault. Okay then – I’ll keep looking and notify the people if I have a chance to.
March 28, 2016 at 6:06 am #466044In case anyone is curious why this happens, it’s because when you have 6 audio channels, the Ogg Vorbis encoder (oggenc.exe in your Magma folder) thinks you are trying to make a 5.1 surround sound file, and the 6th channel is the bass/subwoofer channel (the .1 in 5.1). Vorbis has a special way of encoding this efficiently, since it’s supposed to be only bass frequencies, so if you have other frequencies they get mostly destroyed

Consider me moaning when I say that this shouldn’t have been a default setting. But whatever, we got an imperfect but suitable workaround.
March 29, 2016 at 6:29 pm #466150When HMX decided on what encoding to use back when designing RB1, they never thought about only needing exactly 6 channels for a song, given that any given song at that point would have on average 8-14 channels. As far as I know this “bug” was only discovered because of customs. Solution is simple = have 6 channels? Add silent crowd audio.
April 10, 2016 at 1:11 pm #466781firstly thanks to moepOOO for the OP
And a huge thanks to Kloporte and onyxite
for their replies, as i too hadn’t been able to find the reason or solution for this problem & it stopped me from finishing customs i was testing whenever it occured.
So now i’ve got a stack of partials i can revisit!!!
cheers
April 21, 2017 at 4:05 pm #484209I too had this problem on 3 of my customs, and by following the above advice ( tick crowd backing and put blank44 in ) it fixed my problem, no more corrupted audio.
This was a head scratcher and had me redoing the render and midi export several times.
Thanks very very much.
