I know this is probably an old topic since you don’t really see songs anymore being described as “as made famous by” but my entire life I’ve been confused about this, so I decided to look it up and I feel disappointed. I didn’t do any thorough research but I came up with this forum result pretty much instantly and I just wanted to know what’s right about whose talking about what here

So are “as made famous by” tracks actually covers by Harmonix (or whoever) rather than the artists themselves? Because every time I play these songs I mean, obviously they’re not the original versions and I’m okay with that, but I always figured that the actual bands came in and created their own versions. But now after reading this, all of that crap about seeing the word “cover” in the files and such and then noticing that other songs like pretty much all, if not all, of Devo’s songs in Rock Band being “Rock Band Re-Records,” it’s all starting to add up to me and now I feel like I’ve been taken on a ride my whole life with these “as made famous songs” being like literally fake songs. ‘Cause they’re all pretty cool to me and I’ve always looked at them, again, like just alternate versions by the actual bands themselves. But really? Covers? It’s just crazy to me because all of these songs have always sounded authentic enough to me as them being the actual bands.

Man that’s disappointing as hell. They do a nearly perfect job with covers apparently, but still. Thank you.
