Slowhand is a nickname for Clapton

Uh-oh. First he was accused of not being a true fan of Of oF OF Montreal, and now this.

    SCANDAL!

I’ll keep it 100. I’m not a Clapton fan boy but I do love this particular album.

LATEST UPDATE 2/7 – AMOUR MONTH DAY #7 Stevie Wonder – Knocks Me Off My Feet

Arguably, there isn’t a single bad song in Stevie’s 1976 masterpiece album “Songs in the Key of Life”. Originally released on vinyl as a double album with a total of 17 tracks — that’s right ladies and gents,– 17 compositions of pure Wonder genius to stimulate and please the auditory senses of the even the most fickle of music critics from that time period. “Knocks Me Off My Feet” as cliché as the title itself may suggest, is far from cliché. If you are a keyboard player and fan of Stevie’s signature melodic progressions, I would say you are in for a treat or at least, a great example of what I endearingly call a “Wonderfest” of sound and lyrical poetry that is hard to surpass. Stevie Wonder, in my opinion, is truly one of the great masters of modern day music.

So how do you do this AJF. Have you been working all year just for February? This is insane.

Those songs all look so difficult to chart, and they’re not the kind to have midis lying around too. Doing it all by ear is amazing. Just the pro keys transcribing will be so insane.

It’s called team work and planning. Metal month was 80 customs in a month and took 2 months planning. This one will be 50 and was about a month in advance but I’m constantly working this moment getting everything ready. I couldn’t possibly do it without all the contributions from the many generous authors listed in the credits.

AJFOne23, Thanks so much for keeping that promise and getting back to Stevie’s material. You sir, are a stellar example of the very best this community has to offer. From your very wide range and scope of musical choices to your warm and friendly way of getting members involved with what you do!

Now for you and the rest of the crew, EmotionalFlight and EchoOfMystery who were also involved with working this particular song…….

LATEST UPDATE 2/8 – AMOUR MONTH DAY #8 Jimi Hendrix – 51st Anniversary

“51st Anniversary” – A cool song about a couple going through 51 years of anniversary’s. Up-tempo track in which Jimi’s young age really shows in his vocals. Great guitar riff and guiding bass work by Noel keep the song grooving. My apologies to mrcoupdetat and Jimi369. They finished their parts over a year ago and it sat on my hard drive for too long but I finally got around to it.

Originally released as the title track to Morrison’s third album of 1970, “Moondance” gained much of its popularity as a staple of FM radio back when the FM stereo band was still in its infancy and ‘audiophile snobs’ were the only kids on the block. “Moondance” took 7 years to finally be released as a single in the U.S. in 1977 as more jazz influences were finding their way into the American pop music consciousness. By virtue, “Moondance” exudes an air of sophisticated cool/pop/jazz ‘smooth’ that imbeds itself into the listeners sense of rhythm and flow. The acoustic piano arrangement, enhanced by a bassline that seemingly takes ‘a light and leisurely stroll through the park’ is the perfect accompaniment to Van’s smokin’ cool vocal chops. Every single aspect of this number from the aforementioned musical instruments, to that sexy sax and captivating flute, resonate with a vibrancy and swing which appeals to the part of our psyche that just begs to be sportin’ a short brimmed black fedora and dark shades. I’m pretty confident and can just about guarantee that whatever plastic instrument you play in RB3, if you appreciate the feel of this song,….you’re definitely gonna love playing it!

“All Night Thing” features a sparse arrangement with shuffling brush drums accompanied by Hammond organ with the lead vocals pretty much carrying the dynamics. Clever and accessible, this album closer could have been a big hit. I first heard it featured in a scene in the film Wayne’s World. For some reason it was not included on that soundtrack.

AJFOne23, I saw your Amour month preview poster and wondered if the Hall & Oats track(s) will be the one so many have been wanting to touch. This month is looking “lovely” so far.

LATEST UPDATE 2/10 – AMOUR MONTH DAY #10 Led Zeppelin 4 pack

Coda begins with a wild frenzy of a song, “We’re Gonna Groove”, written by soul artists Ben E. King and James Bethea with the original title “Groovin’”. A studio version was scheduled to appear on Led Zeppelin II, but due to the band’s hectic schedule that year, they never got around to recording it. Page took a live version of the song, recorded at Royal Albert Hall, and did a masterful job of overdubbing lead guitars and enhancing the vocals and drums for the Coda track.

“Thank You” is the original “power ballad”. “Sometimes Zeppelin was gross and very indecent, and sometimes it was delicate and beautiful,” Plant said. “Thank You” presents a rare happily married side of the band. Plant sings a grateful declaration to his wife, Maureen Wilson, and Jones’ organ part is like a regal processional. Page lays down a great acoustic solo.

“The Lemon Song” is an underrated classic, recorded live in the studio much like the material from Led Zeppelin I. This hodge-podge of many blues classics borrows from Howlin’ Wolf’s “Killing Floor”, Robert Johnson’s “Travelling Riverside Blues” and Albert King’s “Cross-Cut Saw”, and it surpasses the best blues efforts on the first album as this track is totally mesmerizing and awe inspiring. During a long mid section, Jones bass playing is at its absolute peak, adding a funky element unheard on previous Zeppelin tracks.

“I’m Gonna Crawl” is an uptown classy blues love song that emerges out of John Paul Jones (keyboard/bass) heavily arranged layers of synthetic keyboards. John Bonham (drums) holds down a steady shuffle groove over which the moody and ethereal string-like synth provides a musical bed for Robert Plant (vocals) to weave a smoky scintillating tale of longing. His former crystalline-throated intonation has aged considerably as he belts out these lines with much of the same guttural growl as Howlin’ Wolf or Rev. Gary Davis. Lyrically “I’m Gonna Crawl” is unusually perfunctory as Plant’s most impressive asset is his delivery which recalls the brooding swagger of Dean Martin and the vocalists future endeavours in the Honeydrippers — most particularly the track “Young Boy Blues”. Jimmy Page’s (guitar) fretwork contains the same mournful tonality as the ‘50s instrumental hit “Sleepwalk”. The lethargic slide is energised and punctuated by Plant’s verbal interjection of “Hit Me!”. Later, following a series of primal screams, Page fires up some stunning leads that dance, rather than blaze, across the melody with a sense of reverence — instead of his trademark sonic assault.
