LATEST UPDATE 8/14 Mastodon Monday – All the Heavy Lifting

    GUITAR: Sygenysis

    “All The Heavy Lifting“:
According to drummer Brann Dailor: That was the first song that I felt like, yeah, okay, we got something. We’d been messing around with some other stuff and it was really during the first week of writing. For the first couple of days you’re just re-familiarizing yourself by playing stuff that you’re not quite sure yet just how it goes. After you’ve been on tour for a very long time, you’re just so used to playing the songs a certain way. Then when you sit down and start writing, it’s like, well, I don’t know how quite to play this yet – it doesn’t feel right immediately. Things were discombobulated and everyone was just kind of like, “Eh, I don’t know.” And then again, it just came together and sounded so evil and badass. So we thought, “Yeah, that’s cool. Let’s do that.”

LATEST UPDATE 8/18 The Guess Who – No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature

    GUITAR/BASS: bsbloom

    PRO KEYS/KEYS: MrPrezident

    VOCALS: Atruejedi

John Presho, who knew Randy Bachman and worked security for his band Bachman-Turner Overdrive, gave us this account of how the song came together:
“Randy told me that the inspiration for writing ‘No Sugar Tonight’ came to him from an experience he had walking in downtown Berkeley, California. Randy was walking and talking with a band mate when he looked up and saw four big biker guys walking on the same sidewalk approaching them. Randy made up his mind to cross the street rather than confront the bikers, then he heard the skidding of car tires. Just as Randy was stepping off the sidewalk the car came to a skidding stop and a biker lady got out of the car, walked over to one of the bikers and engaged in a heated conversation with him. When the argument ended the biker lady walked back to the car, opened the door, turned around, then shouted to the biker, ‘One more thing honey, you’re not getting any sugar tonight’ indicating he was not going to get any sex that night from her. The car took off, Randy crossed the street went back to his hotel and started writing the song based on that experience.” Burton Cummings was not finished with “New Mother Nature,” and Bachman was not done with “No Sugar Tonight,” so they put the 2 songs together to make a complete piece on the album.

LATEST UPDATE 8/21 Mastodon Monday – Ember City

    GUITAR/BASS: spiralshadow123

“Ember City” a musically upbeat number in which Dailor really sets the chorus alight is an interesting contrast with its poignant lyrics (“Someone’s always left behind / When the door of life closes / And you were slipping away”) implying that the band feels surrounded by dimming personal prospects.

I have some more details to share with y’all. Throughout the 31 days a new band will appear bringing many first time full band additions to the library. This will range from pop metal all the way to death metal. Non metal fans will enjoy one non metal Halloween themed song per week. There will be 3 full albums brought to completion as well. I want to thank all the authors who are pitching in as there’s no way I could bring this to you myself. Stay thirsty my friends………………………………………

LATEST UPDATE 8/28 Mastodon Monday – Steambreather

    GUITAR/BASS: spiralshadow123

A deep sound consumes us into the days of Blood Mountain. Dailor revives us and snaps us out of the trance partnered with the background of a slow building guitar. So many great sounds, a wonderful chorus that is fun to sing along to. Insane drumming leads to a quick but efficient guitar solo and boom, the catchy as hell chorus. As fun as it is dark.
