LATEST UPDATE 7/4 4th of July 2 pack (Bruce& Soundgarden)
GUITAR/BASS/KEYS: bsbloom
PRO KEYS: MrBurpler
Carried by the seaside swell of Danny Federici’s accordion and Springsteen’s crystalline lead-guitar intro, this elegiac spiritual descendant of the Beach Boys’ “Surfer Girl” remains one of his most moving songs. Springsteen has called it a “love note and a goodbye song” to his musical home of Asbury Park – its imagery of “carnival life on the water” is an early display of ample storytelling and scene-setting gifts. Its depiction of Seventies Asbury is certainly romanticized: “No one would ever go under the boardwalk,” said then-E Street drummer Vini “Mad Dog” Lopez. “There were rats under the boardwalk!”GUITAR: Cheesecake Militia/Doomtron
BASS/VOCALS: Colonel 32dll
A detuned bass and pitch-black dirge guitars lead this five minute journey before Cameron comes in with a crash around a minute in, and Cornell begins singing with himself, one channel in a lucid middle-register, another in his most operatic high wail. “Now I’m in control” he sings first. “Now I’m in the fall out.”

July 8, 2017 at 1:54 pm #487466LATEST UPDATE 7/8 Soundgarden – Slaves & Bulldozers
GUITAR: naginalJJ/Cheesecake Militia
“Slaves and Bulldozers,” a seething seven-minute crawl where Thayil spends most of the time strangulating his guitar strings for spasms of noise that almost seem to emanate from an inhuman source. If you’ve ever been rendered speechless by the sight of the ocean, stars, volcanic activity—anything that suddenly makes you aware of your minuscule place in the order of life—Thayil’s “leads” (if they can even be called that) surge with the same coldly neutral ferocity.Meanwhile, even when Cornell unleashes his famous throat-scraping roar on the line “now I know why you’ve been shaking,” the enormity of the music feels choked back rather than triumphant. In sharp contrast to other heavy music—which is mostly designed to take frustration out on external targets—Soundgarden’s signature rumble doesn’t give you an athletic rush. All of that gnashing turmoil on “Slaves and Bulldozers” actually points inward, collecting in your muscle tissue as a kind of seismic potential energy. And when the entire band pulls back for Cornell to switch to a bluesy murmur before the song’s wailing climax, Soundgarden show a command of dynamics they simply hadn’t been capable of before.July 10, 2017 at 3:29 pm #487537LATEST UPDATE 7/10 Mastodon Monday – Call of the Mastodon
GUITAR/BASS: spiralshadow123
Usually the title track of an album would be one of the best, and this is no exception. This song is another roller coaster of downtuned guitar riffs that keep you throwing up the horns. The song also features multiple time changes, from 6/4 to 4/4 to 3/4, showing off their skills as musicians. The dual lead guitars on here are also awesome to listen to. A great way to end the album.

July 16, 2017 at 9:15 am #487799LATEST UPDATE 7/16 Chris Cornell 2 pack
GUITAR: Bansheeflyer
The opening song on his solo debut, Euphoria Morning, the melodic, Beatlesque “Can’t Change Me,” Cornell repudiates Soundgarden’s alt-metal in favor of expansive, crafted tunes that can be hummed rather than just moshed to. “It was a conscious decision to break with the Soundgarden sound,” he says. It was released in early 1999 and turned out to be the biggest hit from the album commercially and the song had strong chart positions.
GUITAR: Bansheeflyer
While the song lacks the musical heaviness delivered by Kim Thayil or Tom Morello, this gem from Cornell’s 1999 solo album Euphoria Morning highlights the emotional heaviness Cornell brought to any song at his disposal. “Follow My Way” shows Cornell’s massively underrated talent as a lyricist. Several Euphoria Morning tracks are self-effacing pleas for his fans and loved ones to recognize his façade, summed up in “Follow My Way”’s opening line, “Little one, don’t be a fool. I’m a wreck when I look mighty.” Cornell isn’t the “boy bathed in infrared and sunlight” that he knows the listener is looking for, “only pure when I get lost.” But while tracks like “Can’t Change Me,” “When I’m Down,” and “Flutter Girl” warn the listener of the futility and danger of loving him, “Follow My Way” asks the listener to brace for his chaos and love him anyway. The gorgeous and intimate imagery (“In euphoria I’m bruised,” “I’m the pain, fever, and sweet relief in one,” “Warm your hands inside my veins, I might be contagious”) certainly make it easy to fall for him. This is not to say that Cornell’s lyrics carry “Follow My Way” more than his voice. “Follow My Way” shows Cornell at his most emotionally vulnerable. Listen to the strain during the final lyrics, “When all you know is that I don’t know where we are, when all you know is that I don’t know, follow my way.” Cornell has hit higher notes with ease. The finale demonstrates a knack for using the right vocal techniques for the right mood. Cornell knows he is lost. Cornell knows he will only further ruin the listener with his doubts. Yet as he begs for the listener to follow his way anyway, Cornell solidifies “Follow My Way”’s place amongst the most heart-wrenching songs of his discography.July 16, 2017 at 1:50 pm #487801These little info blurbs you add to each custom really adds to the appreciation of each song. July 17, 2017 at 8:23 am #487882LATEST UPDATE 7/17 Mastodon Monday – Burning Man
GUITAR: Onyxite
“Burning Man” kicks off with some blistering guitar and drums. It’s really impressive hearing how tightly and quickly the band blows through this track, without giving up any heaviness. Again, the drums are constantly flowing with complex fills.
