October 14, 2016 at 3:50 pm #476294UPDATE 10/14 – Frank Zappa “Tell Me You Love Me” & Metal Month part 1
GUITAR/BASS: nsw1-6
With “Tell Me You Love Me,” (featuring Flo & Eddie from the Turtles) Zappa changed his approach to doo wop love songs. The lyrics are as basic as can be: boy wants girl for sex (“Tell me you love me/Like I want you to”). There are about six different lines throughout the song, each repeated ad nauseam. Lyric-wise, this could have been on Cruising With Ruben & the Jets or even Freak Out. The big difference comes from the heavy rock anthem propelling the song and the fact that Flo & Eddie are singing balls out, giving the whole thing force of impact, urgency, ludicrousness, and infectious appeal none of Zappa’s previous doo wop pastiches ever came close to. Aynsley Dunbar is here as the first proper bad ass drummer that wasn’t a sideman.GUITAR: Puppetz
This spooky song is probably my favorite all time Pantera tune. The guitar solos and harmonies throughout are classic Dimebag and I never tire of hearing it.GUITAR: Jordan9232
Very underrated tune from SOH. Dave Lombardo is brilliant as always.GUITAR/BASS: Angevil
This song combines the best of Slayer all in one. Frantic first half followed by a heavy and haunting second half.October 14, 2016 at 5:09 pm #476295AJ

October 21, 2016 at 9:58 pm #476649LATEST UPDATE 10/21 – Frank Zappa “Mo’s Vacation” & Metal Month part 2
Studio version of Mo’s Vacation, recorded in the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen in 1982 featuring Chad Wackerman on drums. The song originally started out when David Ocker, who is a music copyist for Frank, should get a raise, and he said he would rather have Frank write him a song. So Frank wrote him the melody entitled “Moe And Herb’s Vacation.”GUITAR: Henk
“Mary Jane” tells a story about a young witch buried alive by her father near the Loon Lake cemetery in Minnesota. According to the legend, anyone who dared to disturb her grave was doomed to a prompt death. The song features descending guitar lines and begins with Mustaine summoning her spirit during the introduction. It was released as a single in May 1988.October 25, 2016 at 12:03 am #476743LATEST UPDATE 10/24 – The 8 days of Halloween – Day 1- Mastodon “Quintessence”
GUITAR: obZen
DRUMS: italianstal1ion
BASS: MrBurpler
VOCALS: Onyxite“Quintessence” contains some of the album’s most intricate guitar work, plus singing that is both guttural and undeniably melodic. It culminates in a torrent of wails and bellows, guitar, and human voice interpenetrating into cosmic sludge before giving way to an alien synth coda. Daunting stuff, but the sonic impact is tremendous.October 25, 2016 at 2:17 am #476750ADDED preview videos for all Slayer “Blood Red” , Megadeth “Mary Jane” and Frank Zappa “Mo’s Vacation” courtesy of Sideshow
