UPDATE 9/17 – Frank Zappa & Black Sabbath full band

    GUITAR: nsw1-6

The instrumental “Easter Hay” was debuted in 1978 and soon after not only became a fan-favorite but a favorite of Frank’s as well. When Frank was asked whether or not he felt he had written or recorded anything that was unique or special to him he replied yes mentioning the names of 3 guitar instrumentals; ‘Black Napkins,’ ‘Zoot Allures’ and ‘Watermelon In Easter Hay.’ He considered these his ‘signature pieces. Rarely could you describe a Zappa composition as beautiful but this is a true exception.

“Symptom of the Universe” was composed largely by guitarist Tony Iommi with lyrics by Geezer Butler and pointed the way toward thrash metal in the 80’s. The song’s closing passage, very disparate from the rest of the song, evolved from an in-studio jam. It was created very spontaneously in a single day and the decision was made to incorporate it into the song.
The authorship is really a Frankenstein job. I had a hand in almost every detail but is was truly a team effort. Thanks to everyone listed above.

    Thanks for the Black Sabbath.

In the visualizer (and possibly the song metadata itself) the album is labeled “Paranoid”.

You’re very welcome. It’s probably his most beautiful composition ever.

    UPDATE 9/23 – Silverchair 3 pack & Frank Zappa

    GUITAR/VOCALS: nsw1-6

“Outside Now” is one of the best compositions from Joe’s Garage. The song is built on a single slow 11/8 riff — the melody changes between verse and chorus but the backing music remains the same. Its half-depressed, half-fantasized mood is quite unique in Zappa’s book. On the studio album, the guitar solos Joe dreams up are, indeed, unreal. The composer took them from pre-existing, unrelated live recordings and pasted them on the studio tracks of “Outside Now,” a process he referred to as xenochrony and used extensively on Joe’s Garage, Acts II & III.

“Israel’s Son” was the third single released from their debut full-length album, Frogstomp, and used on the soundtrack to the western version of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.
It is the only Frogstomp song the band still played live in the years prior to the band going into “indefinite hibernation” in 2011.

This blistering instrumental actually had vocals but they decided they were so bad and the music was strong enough that they removed all but the last line. Song writer Daniel Johns credits Soundgarden and Helmet and the main influences on this song.
