UPDATE 5/27 – Chicago X pack Part 1 released!

Here is part 1 of my 2 pack release for Chicago X released in 1976. The album is notable for its soulfulness, and Chicago’s first number one hit, If You Leave Me Now. The album art depicts a partially unwrapped chocolate bar with the band’s logo on it. Credits listed below. Also thanks to my friend Masayuki Funatsu for creating a great image for this pack.

    Video Preview

    GUITAR: narutostarwars123456
    5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer

Guitarist Terry Kath wrote a rip roaring opening track that is much more down to earth than his contributions to the last 2 albums. The awesome sax solo is sadly the last time Walt Parazaider would have a prominent solo on a Chicago album.

    GUITAR: ghostbyob
    5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer

This raunchy tune from Jimmy Pankow features some smoking horn parts, guitar solo, and shuffle rhythm throughout. The lyrics are a little obviously about procreation

    GUITAR: Mb1nightmare

    5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer

A lyrical retelling of their career up to this point Scrapbook is pure funk.

Part 2 will be ready soon. This will be the last 2 part pack release for an album. In the future there should be no more than 5 songs from the later albums so the 80’s era will be here sooner than you think.

AJFOne23 what a big surprise, right before my very eyes! Really looking forward to Chicago Rock Band moving into the 80’s. Maybe it makes me a bad Chicago fan, but I’m really looking forward to songs like “Hard to say I’m sorry” and that lot =).

If you were to ask me a year and a half ago I would have called you a bad Chicago fan but in the meantime I’ve come to love and appreciate 80’s Chicago. Not as much as their early albums but more than I could have imagined. So latter day fans should expect to be satisfied eventually.

So what we’ve learned is, had AJFOne23 been faithful to early Chicago, then we would’ve been cheated, and missed out on good later Chicago!

I for one am happy to hear that’s not happening.

This song is a blast on drums. Very short but very sweet.

    GUITAR: bsbloom
    5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer

Another Rainy Day in New York City is a song written by Robert Lamm and was the first single released reaching #32 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

    GUITAR: ghostbyob
    5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer

You Are On My Mind was the third single for the album, reaching #49 in April 1977.

    GUITAR: bsbloom

This track was recorded during the album sessions but left off and resurrected as a bonus track in the early 2000’s. It’s the most unusual ballad I’ve heard written by guitarist Terry Kath featuring many moods, twists and turns and continuously ramping up to a furious climax. No keys were charted as they are very low in the mix.

    GUITAR: ghostbyob
    5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer

Trumpet player Lee Loughnane wrote and contributed a lead vocal for this song.
