LATEST UPDATE 4/27 – Pearl Jam – Last Exit
GUITAR: Mb1nightmare
The song opens Vitalogy as an angry but also lively composition and early on sings about how fame open lives and ruin them by turning them into marketing. The protagonist shows hurry and says that will let the ocean dissolve way his past. After a little time, no one will remember his existence. During the song, lots of metaphors lead to the understanding of running away and letting natural things destroy what’s left of the person, just like the sun and the oceans (references do Eddie’s surf passion). Closing the song, the protagonist insists that he’s going under a strong decision of being depersonalized because, out of desperation, this is his last exit for survive.April 28, 2020 at 10:51 pm #511100LATEST UPDATE 4/28 – Foo Fighters & Frank Zappa

April 30, 2020 at 6:01 am #511134LATEST UPDATE 4/30 – Bill Withers – Lean on Me
GUITAR/BASS/STANDARD KEYS: bsbloom
VOCALS: BornGamerRob
Bill Withers wrote “Lean on Me” based on his experiences growing up in a West Virginia coal mining town. During the lean times, neighbors would help each other out. The simple chord progression was created while he noodled around on his just purchased Wurlitzer electric piano. He wasn’t a pianist and had no knowledge of the keyboard; he just knew that he liked the sound made when he spaced his fingers a certain way. The sound of the chords reminded Withers of the church hymns that he heard growing up. The song was written before Withers was a recording star, having to come up with “material” for a new album. It was written purely on the basis of the singer wanting to express the “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” sentiment that he’d grown up with.

VOCALS: BornGamerRob
STANDARD KEYS: MrPrezident
This ballad from Fiona’s debut is equal parts sexy and sultry yet without being explicit or lewd. It displays a love beyond that of her young age at the time could have possibly known yet you believe every word. It’s definitely in my top 5 songs from her.

May 10, 2020 at 1:58 pm #511344LATEST UPDATE 5/10 – Bill Withers and Mother’s Day Zappa update!
GUITAR/BASS/STANDARD KEYS: bsbloom
1975’s Making Music showcases Withers’ warm vocals and intimate composition style. No track better illustrates both qualities than the melancholy “Hello Like Before.”Featuring a hint of Brazilian rhythms, Withers tells the story of encountering a past love, recreating their conversation. He expresses ambivalence (“I’d never come here if I’d known that you were here”) but also wishes her well. The most interesting lyrical passage occurs when he reflects on how they have grown intellectually and emotionally. “I hope we’ve grown ’cause we were only children then / For laughs I guess we both can say ‘I knew you when’ / But then again, that’s kiss and tell.” In other words, Withers will not share intimate details with the listener, or perhaps the experiences are simply too fresh and painful to recount. He admits that he knew the day would come when they would meet again, but states that their reunion may not be what he had envisioned: “I guess it’s different ’cause we know each other now,” he croons, perhaps alluding to the maturity they did not possess when they first met.Strings heighten the drama, but never overpower the arrangement. Keyboards courtesy of the great Dave Grusin accent the lingering feeling of regret, while Ernie Watt’s searing sax solo communicates the attraction remaining between the former couple. Artful simplicity and genuine emotion: these phrases best summarize Withers’ unique gifts and ability to enthrall listeners and it’s my favorite song from a discography full of gems.GUITAR: SteveHasAMustache
DRUMS: MrBurpler
Happy mother’s day from Frank and the Mothers of Invention. This old drums only customs has updated drums from MrBurpler and the epic guitar solo finally included. If you thought the old version was difficult then you better warm up good for this update. You have been warned!
May 11, 2020 at 7:19 am #511361LATEST UPDATE 5/11 – Beck, Bogert & Appice – Lady
GUITAR: bsbloom
Beck, Bogert & Appice were a rock supergroup and power trio formed by guitarist Jeff Beck and included bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice, who were both previously in Vanilla Fudge and Cactus. The undeniable highlight is the complex “Lady”; all three bandmates with full heads of steam with frenzied instrumentation throughout along with beautiful vocals and harmonies. Definitely a lost gem from the classic rock golden age.May 12, 2020 at 7:19 am #511386LATEST UPDATE 5/12 – The Cardigans – Pikebubbles
GUITAR: SuperRiderTH
Pikebubbles is a delightful ditty in 5/4 that also doubles as a foray into absolute nonsense . The playful and intriguing mix of major and minor chords between the flutes and keyboards is pure gold but good luck determining the lyrical deep meaning.
