Hi all. I’ve just recently discovered this amazing site. First and foremost, I want to thank everyone that has put in all the hard work and effort into making these customs.
I would like to contribute by adding missing vocals to existing customs. I’ve read the “C3 Tutorial for New Authors” and watched the video on page 16 for authoring vocals. Unfortunately, a lot of it is way over my head. The vocals authoring video seems to involve importing the a song and a MIDI of that song and going from there. However, if there is already a CON for a custom, I assume the song and MIDI are already there “within” the CON. Is there a way to edit that CON and just add the vocals to the already existing song/MIDI? Or is that not how this works? I ask because in section 2.1 of the tutorial (pg. 4) it says you can start by using an existing single instrument custom but the entire tutorial seemed to focus on starting from scratch by importing a song and a MIDI. I hope I’m making sense and I apologize for my ignorance on all of this.

Before doing anything, I’d suggest contacting the original song’s author with a brief introduction and explaining your intent. Most authors will welcome collaboration with others, and they may even send you the Reaper project file which has everything you’d need already in it.
If the author is unresponsive after a few attempts (some authors or older customs may no longer be active on the forums), then you could potentially use C3 Con Tools to extract the midi from the custom, import it into Reaper, add whatever add’l parts you’re looking to add, then rebuild the CON through C3 Magma (C3 Magma will apply strict rules checks, and make sure that you haven’t unintentionally introduced problems through your midi track).

From there you should be able to chart the vocals, add lyrics, phrases and overdrive. Then fire up Magma and compile the song. DO NOT upload this song to the database if it’s already there, in that case you do what samjjones says.

However you still need to use Magma when you’re all done to make sure you haven’t made any illegal notes or errors.

I don’t think that works if you’ve added new instruments. The mogg file won’t have silent tracks for the vocals, so the song would have to be rebuilt.

Nope. File will be .mogg as that is what is inside the CON. Most files will be encrypted and you won’t be able to do anything with that .mogg file. If it’s not encrypted, throw it at Audacity as that ignores the mogg header, then export to wav or whatever you want to use in REAPER.
If all you do is edit the MIDI, the game won’t show any difference. If you manually edit the DTA file without recompiling in Magma your game will crash as you won’t have the right audio tracks in the .mogg file.
