I’ve been trying to learn to chart drums the past few weeks also.
Yes I’m finding tempo mapping & understanding Reaper to be very difficult. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />
March 29, 2016 at 3:29 pm #466142Tempo mapping is something that gets easier the more you do it. My first few attempts at tempo mapping were atrocious. Try and find a song that has some kind of sheet music available and try using that to help map. It really helps out a great deal.
March 29, 2016 at 4:09 pm #466143My first chart utilized a drum machine so tempo mapping was really easy. Usually 80s new wave used those a lot so they’d be fairly easy to start with. A lot of artists also used a metronome (80s glam, hair metal, most modern music, rap, much folk rock).
One song that I’ve found to be great with learning the basics on pretty much anything is Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust”. You won’t be able to upload it naturally, but if you’re really struggling I’d suggest learning on that song. It’s great for pretty much anything (tempo mapping, instrument charting, learning how to play RB or even real instruments).
Just don’t start with heavy metal, prog, or garage rock. You’ll tear your hair out.

Hum ! Been attempting to learn charting drums on Y&T and Molly Hatchet songs.
Thanks Bansheeflyer…… Perhaps I will try an easier song or band first, Lord knows I don’t have much hair left to tear out ! lol
Hard to find a good song I want to start with Drum charting, this late into the game you guys & gals have charted all the good songs already !
Just thought there were no Y&T or Molly Hatchet in RB3 would be 2 good bands to start with or maybe NOT…….

Yeah, as awesome as Y&T and Molly Hatchet are, as first songs I can imagine them being quite difficult.
Nyxyxylyth’s tutorial is very helpful but it’s still difficult when actually doing it yourself.
Edit: I don’t know very much about Y&T but if they’re anything like other hard rock from the 70s and 80s, they have some slow love/sad songs that may be easy to chart.
March 30, 2016 at 12:32 am #466163The song is popish so i didn’t think it would be to hard to tempo map but the drums just seem like there everywhere in the song this is the song i’m doing
March 30, 2016 at 12:37 am #466164Yeah pop songs are pretty crazy with the drums. They’re crazy easy to chart since they’re machines set to a tempo but actually authoring them…that’s different.
