While making custom songs is not something I can not do with my free time just yet (college is pretty demanding), being able to make my own custom songs would be one of the most awesome things in the world for me!

This strongly appeals to me because by doing this, I can make songs by bands that have little chance of making it to CCC otherwise (like Big Black, Cardiacs, or even Death Grips), and songs I have been dying to play (for example- Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan). Learning all the information is something that I would be willing to do during my free time in the summer, since I believe being able to make my own custom songs would be well worth it. I would love to be able to do some requests as well.

I admit, I haven’t really been able to review the complete tutorial yet as I am currently studying for a midterm. However I have a few quick questions about the process.

1.) On average, how long does it take to learn how to make your own custom songs?

2.) How long did it originally take you to make custom songs? Now that you have more experience, how long does it take you currently?

3.) Can anybody upload songs to CCC? I know there are certain standards that I will look into, and I would be willing to work on constant revisions of a song if needed.

4.) Are there guidelines to what is allowed on the CCC database? For example, do artists have to have a certain amount of popularity to be added, songs too explicit will not be allowed (Ex. Last Caress by The Misfits), etc.

Those are the only questions I have for now. I am very excited to hopefully be able to create my own custom songs in the near future!

    1. If you want to do it well, I would say about a week or two of reading up on the authoring docs, getting familiar with Reaper and Magma, etc. I would say to start with reading the authoring docs and working from there: http://pksage.com/rbndocs/index.php?title=Main_Page

    2. 48 hours at first, about 24 hours now

    3. You can submit your song to The Show Floor and might be considered to be picked up by a author. If they do, it will end up in the database when fixed up and scheduled. Be sure the chart is in as good as a shape it can be before submitting

    4. Basically just nothing that will get us in trouble (songs already available as DLC, things supporting Nazism/racism/etc. explicitly and genuinely, album art featuring real gore or underage nudity, etc.) probably I would say. Should also be “real music” in terms of being something that is made to be music and not just made in FL Studio or whatever to be hard to play but not intended as listening material, that is probably better left for Other Customs

Awesome, that is much less stressful than I anticipated. I was expecting that learning the program would take like 3-4 months, and that songs would take like 4-5 weeks.

I just have some quick questions about 3.) and 4.) though.

1.) What happens if the song is not picked by an author? Say, I put alot of work into a custom song and the song is near complete, but none of the authors are interested in picking up the song for whatever reason. Can the song ever be re-submitted after a certain period of time, or is the song rejected for good? (It’s fine if my songs don’t get picked up, I just want to create songs <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” /> although it would be cool to share them with others).

2.) You mention “Nazism and Racism”. The first song I want to do as a learning experience, as it is short and easy, is “Nazi Punks Fuck Off” by the Dead Kennedys. The song is anti-racist and anti-nazi, but mentions Nazism and has a crossed out swastika on the single cover. Would this song be considered to be pick up, or would it not be picked up because of it’s references?

3.) Lastly, how explicit are album covers allowed to be? Would the “Songs About Fucking” album cover be allowed? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songs_About_Fucking). If so, what about the “No Love Deep Web” album cover (NSFW)(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Love_Deep_Web). These are some pretty acclaimed bands with a pretty good sized following. If I have to use a censored album cover, than whatever, it’s truly not that big of a deal.

You share them with others regardless. The Show Floor is for authors who are near C3 level of quality but are not there yet and need someone to sponsor their work to polish it and put it throgh playtesting. You can release your songs in your own thread: people are hungry for good content and look for songs in the Other Customs forum. Releasing through C3 is something you shouldn’t be concerned with right now, it’s a step that requires you to have mastered most of authoring concepts first.

If a song has been released by a somewhat mainstream act it means it already permeated the music world and us releasing the song makes no difference. Personally I see little to no constraint to free speech but I suppose it would be a matter of the collective taking a I KNow It When I See It decision.

The only thing I’d consider censoring would be hate crime stuff. Otherwise, I’m eagerly awaiting a custom of “Jesus Entering From the Rear” by The Feederz, which is the most offensive song I’ve ever heard (and sung along with).

Basically what the others said, not “mentions of Nazism” but downright promotion of it without it being meant as a joke, which is something that wouldn’t be allowed to be released by most mainstream labels anyways. Basically, Anal Cunt would probably be okay but any songs by Burzum that might be about how Count Grishnack likes Hitler or hates Jews would probably not

Also, when I say 24-48 hours I don’t mean 1-2 days, I mean literary 48 hours of work, so keep that in mind
