    Hi all,

So I’ve literally just stumbled upon my first ever song that included 4 chorded notes. It doesn’t matter what author or what song it was, I would just like to know your thoughts.

Do you enjoy playing songs with weird formats like G,Y,O, G,R,O and the new 4 note chord I saw (R,Y,B,O)?

Well technically those are frowned upon so I can’t say I appreciate their presence. The only instrument that allows four-note chords is keys and even then those are used sparingly.

Though as I recall, the first note in “Raining Blood” from Guitar Hero Smash Hits is a five-note chord so I guess it could be worse.

Edit: Whoops, it’s actually the last note.

The most musical instrument of all.

In our customs, at least, even 3-note chords are pretty rare, besides some earlier customs that had them up the wazoo, and a lot of our 5-lane Keys parts. Only one of our songs has any 4-note chords at all, and I think in the context, it was appropriate.

The weird GYO chords and whatnot are good if you want to simulate sort of discordant effect, but we never use them, and I hate to play them.

Four note chords were prohibited in the official build if Magma. So RBN songs couldn’t have them charted. It was asked that I remove that limitation early on, so Magma C3 allows that and other silliness…but I don’t think any C3 song ever used them.

I don’t think the ergonomics of the plastic guitars allow us to play 4 note chords in any comfortable way.

Psh, I know right? Worst game of all time. Soon they’ll have guitars playing keyboard…

GYO and GBO chords are manageable, in fact, it feels more like an actual chord I’d play for an acoustic song, but it doesn’t really fit in Rock Band. As much as I like to emphasize realism, it’s still a game and “fun” is usually a word associated with games (unless you play competitive multiplayer and are obsessed with good stats – then it’s serious business) and to many the aforementioned chords aren’t “fun”.

Four note chords I still think shouldn’t be used at all. They make intense sounds feel more satisfying to play but there’s a reason (most) rock band rhythm games don’t use them.

If they have to be used, at least make the four notes contiguous for the sake of playability.

Yeah, if anyone forces the guitarist to play a GRBO chord I will personally come to your place of residence and beat you over the head with a roll of newspaper until you change it.

                  Ahh! GRBO. The Spock chord.

There’s gotta be a use for this… :hocuspocus:

Only song I think of that have a 4 chorded note is I’m the One from Guitar Hero Van Halen. Raining Blood from Guitar Hero 3/Smash Hits had a 5(!!) chorded note

As a guitarist with long-ass fingers, I wouldn’t consider a GRYB or RYBO chord to be all that bad, but I’d still cringe upon seeing one charted.

Didn’t GH Aerosmith or WT have a 4 note chord somewhere?

Ha, I remember that 5 note chord. Time to bust out the good ol’ thumb wraparound.

Yeah the last note was all 5 frets, plus it was a star power note so that the lightning effect could occur at the same time as the thunder.

Leave it to Beenox to sacrifice practicality for creativity.
