2 Copies of Reaper?

Odd question, but I am working on a chart with two guitars, and I have stems for them. When the lead is present, I want to follow that. When it stops playing, I shift to the other guitar.
To do this, I am constantly loading one version of Reaper (Guitar1), then the other (Guitar 2), and so on. It would be much easier if I could have both running in different windows. Can that be done?
That’s what I am doing – I am making two charts. I have one with the lead soloed, and the other with the rhythm guitar soloed. So, I go back and forth between the two, but life would be much simpler if I could do this between two windows. Instead, I keep opening the other Reaper file. I can’t figure out any way to have two Reaper projects running side-by-side.
Unless I’m misreading ctrl-alt-n might be what you are aksing for. It opens a new tab next to your current project. In this tab you can load another project and you can switch between them. It doesn’t do wonders for the stability though (save often, more often, oftener, oftenstesterst; You get the point).
That said, I see some sound advice on the mixing and soloing front. I don’t see why you would want to run two projects in the situation you are describing.
If you want to make separate guitar charts entirely just do that from the same project. Put one stem on the guitar track and the other one on Keys or whatever track you want to use. You can easily switch between these two windows in the same project.

Assuming you are using windows, right-click on the reaper icon and choose to open a new instance. I do this all the time.

That’s what I am looking for. Unfortunately, when I do that, it just reopens the same project. Maybe I need a newer Windows.
If you REALLY want to have two distinct REAPER instances open, make sure you first go to Preferences -> General and uncheck “Check for multiple instances when launching”. That will let you run two separate processes. I would definitely recommend you use project tabs instead, especially if you are using ASIO for audio.
