I want to try astrophotography, but without expensive cameras yet. I saw that you can use a smartphone through a special adapter. Which one is better? My telescope has 1.25-inch eyepiece. The holder needs to be stable, and phone should not move at the slightest touch. It is also important that it fits different phone models, because my family has different gadgets. Has anyone tried such things? Maybe there are proven options? I don’t want to spend money on a useless thing.

Yes, such adapters are really convenient. I recently bought Celestron NexYZ 3-Axis Universal Smartphone Adapter, and it works great. The coolest feature is three adjustment knobs (X-, Y- and Z-axes), which allow you to precisely align the smartphone camera with the eyepiece. This is especially important if you want clear photos without blur. It also has a durable design – a metal frame and strong polymer. The phone is held securely and does not slip. If you want to avoid shaking altogether, you can connect Bluetooth shutter button. Works with many telescopes, including 1.25″ eyepieces. By the way, if you are looking for alternatives, check out the smartphone telescope adapter – there are also interesting models there.

Judging by the description, modern adapters are already well thought out. Probably the most important thing is the precise fixation of the phone and the absence of shaking. It will be interesting to hear how all this manifests itself in real conditions.
