Yo. I decided to throw together a custom to showcase Rock Band 3’s post-processing effects and camera cuts using Wii emulator Dolphin. I’ve revised it three times now and am looking to gather some feedback before I go through and produce a video for each and every venue. That will be time consuming, so there’s no point in spitting out a ton of videos if there’s some way to significantly improve the base system. Here is the latest iteration:

This video’s initial purpose was simply to show off post-processing effects; I only decided to use more than one camera cut later. Initially, every cut was coop_front_near. Although I added a great deal of variety, not every single camera cut is utilized because I didn’t want the custom to run longer than needed for the post-processing effects. Furthermore, even if I did use every single cut, there are multiple versions of each cut, so you’d never see everything.

Other important and useful details:

• There is no lighting effect used.
• Spotlights are active on all instruments during the entire song.
• The BPM of the song is 120.
• Each measure is 4 seconds long.
• Each measure’s first second displays the default post-processing effect, ProFilm_a. The next 3 seconds are the featured effect, noted as a lyric in HARM1.
• Each post-processing effect is featured for 2 measures, or 8 total seconds.
• Each measure starts with a specific camera cut. The camera will change on the first beat of the measure. Each camera cut change is noted as a lyric in HARM2.
• Directed cuts are placed on those first beats, but directed cuts often start early. If a directed cut ends early, the camera goes back to the previous effect (as far as I know).
• If the requested camera cut is unavailable, the camera will not change or will use an alternative shot (See the RBN Authoring Documents for more info).
• Each instrument is programmed into the custom, including keys. Keyboardist camera cuts are stacked with the bassist, so if the user selects the keyboardist that avatar will replace the bassist.
• Each instrument plays a note on every beat of the song.
• Each instrument changes animation status throughout the song, with that change noted as a lyric in HARM3.

I plan to add time markers to jump to each effect once this is finalized. And further down the road, I also plan to create a custom showcasing the lighting (or lack thereof) in each venue. It isn’t desirable to do both post-processing and lighting in the same video, because one can significantly alter the appearance of the other. So, give me feedback, and I’ll get to recording the other videos.

Since I just input all of the venue codes into Dolphin for myself, I figured I’d back up that effort and also create a copy-paste-ready list of Gecko codes that force each venue to appear. Credit to StackOverflow0x for creating them in the first place. Only enable one at a time!
