How do you add the “learn a song” functionality?

None of the customs I currently have in the game seems to be selectable in the “learn a song” area of the game. How do you add this functionality to our customs? Is it impossible?

IIRC it somewhat is due to the fact we use TU4 instead of 5. Users on modded a XBOX or (possibly) PS3 could use this functionality but it’s pretty much not really written down anywhere on how to use it.

Ok, do you mean that this feature was added only in TU5 for xbox, and is absent in the previous versions?

The Learn a song/training feature is present in all versions of the game. It’s even present in the Wii version, which doesn’t support title updates.

Speaking of the Wii, you can select them in that version, but the game will crash as soon as the highway is loaded. I haven’t seriously looked into it, but since the training mode has you play unique sections, my guess is that songs need manually placed “training sections” (similar to practice sections) in order to function properly in this mode. I’ve always wondered if it was possible to add them to customs, but never seriously looked into it lol

Also, I’m not really into coding/debugging or anything like that, but if it helps, I tried this on Dolphin and received these errors when the game crashed:

To be able to use the Trainers on PS3, you have to mark the song as a RB3 DLC instead of a RBN 2.0 song using the source in the dta file.

A big side effect of doing that is that it screws up animations, but if you don’t care about those, then you’re good to go.

And yes, trainers have to be authored, if they aren’t then it doesn’t work.

Interesting! I don’t remember reading about authoring trainers in C3 tutorials or RBN documentation, only practice sections but now it’s clear they are separate things.

Weird that animations are related to this.

It is not documented anywhere, we figured it out when discussing on Discord in the C3 server.

Right, I totally thought it was TU5. But stackoverflow has a program to turn rbn2 venue tracks into the Milo files rb3 dlc uses for animations. So that’s a workaround for animations

It may have been TU5 that introduced the problem. The PS3 version with customs is updated to TU5, so this is not out of the question, maybe someone could test customs with a vanilla RB3 (without any updates) and see if trainers works on RBN 2.0 custom songs.

IIRC they don’t because they never were set up. Like authors didn’t know about them so they didn’t add them. So it’s only RB3 on disc and DLC songs. (Plus it’s also only pro guitar/bass/keys that uses training)

Some authors do add them, especially Wii authors since they work natively there (using the default RBN source). I know Ruggy adds them to his custom songs.

No I meant for RBN. The RBN 2.0 authors didn’t add them. But I guess I kind of misunderstood what you said. You said “RBN 2.0” and I immediately thought legit RBN 2.0 songs. But you also said “RBN 2.0 custom songs” which I now take as basically what we do now.
