I’m not that good of a Phase Shift/Guitar Hero player, prefer to just play casually to relax.. but i shouldn’t be punished if I want to enjoy good songs on a lower difficulty. Is there any options to take a custom song that has been posted as ‘expert only’.. and lower to it Medium somehow???

Use CAT tools in Reaper or use the Onyx tool kit.

There is no option. The quickest way to achieve this (and be aware that it would not be polished work) would be to take the midi file in REAPER, use the CAT tools to auto-generate lower difficulties, and then swap the midi file in the CON (or ps3/wii files) with the modified one, and add the new difficulty in the dta file.

Auto-generation does not work for pro guitar/bass.

This is why authors should normally take care of providing all difficulties… It takes only a few minutes with CAT, and maybe half an hour to do manual reductions. I would recommend anyone to always at least make manual reductions to ProKeys, since CAT cannot do them.

Fortunately there are only about a thousand expert-only songs in the database, less than 400 of them are complete (i.e. full-band) or at least with legacy instruments. If you need reductions for some of them, ask the author!

I think i found the program links, I will give this a try before starting to bug the original authors, thanks.

Of course! Check out Farottone’s tutorial or the others here: http://customscreators.com/index.php?/topic/8997-list-of-all-authoring-stuff-reaper-magma-tutorials-etc/page-1

If you want to try and make lower difficulties reductions, you can find guidelines under each instrument’s instructions here: http://docs.c3universe.com/rbndocs/index.php?title=Main_Page

If it’s too much to digest, I can give you a shorter summary here in this thread.

For the moment, make sure you install the older 4.22 version of Reaper, and that you learn to extract the midi from the CON file and load it properly in Reaper i.e. with separate tracks and tempo map included.

I would greatly appreciate a step by step Shroud! Just taking expert only songs, and making them playable at medium.

First step is to install Reaper and get RBN Tools and CAT working. The documentation for this already exists here: http://customscreators.com/index.php?/topic/8997-list-of-all-authoring-stuff-reaper-magma-tutorials-etc/

CAT will let you generate automatic reductions from Expert down through the difficulties. RBN Tools will let you preview your medium charts outside of running them on your console.

Do not expect CAT to create perfect medium charts though, you will need to familiarize yourself with the guidelines for the instruments you want medium charts for and then adjust the charts accordingly.

The guidelines for charting everything are here: http://docs.c3universe.com/rbndocs/index.php?title=Main_Page

Some rules are simpler and more intuitive than others – sustained notes for example are things that can easily be charted right on guitar and bass. Wrapping notes into 4 lanes at a time on medium guitar and bass can require more finesse.

If you want a basic guide to reductions for medium guitar and bass there is an infographic here: http://customscreators.com/index.php?/topic/18940-medium-guitar-and-bass-reductions-infographic/

Good luck with your medium reductions, it is also something that I am passionate about too …

In other words, i think my hopes will be denied at this time. Trying to “get things working” is not something I have time for right now. Still seems like to much work. I guess i misunderstood, when i head the program had an ‘auto’ difficulty lower. Is what it is I guess, if the original author refuses to do it for the 10 or so songs I wanted.

Is there a program where you can just open each song and it shows you the whole chart and you can just go through and delete notes one at a time?

Well, that’s what I do in Reaper when manually creating lower difficulties <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” /> Doing manually takes more time but it’s easy, in my case CAT gave me headaches.

I am away from the tools, so I am a bit afraid to write precise instructions because I know I’ll forget exactly what appears on the screen…

Your first goal IMO should be to load the midi into Reaper and match it with the C3 template, which makes everything more readable.

I think you have already extracted the midi file using C3 CON Tools, right? Have you also added the C3 template to Reaper (takes a few steps which should be in the tutorial)? Then IIRC you do the following:

                      – open Reaper, start new project and load template (from the File menu I guess)

                      – the template shows midi tracks with some sample notes, but you want to replace them with the existing midi you have extracted: select the tracks from the main Reaper area (for example one by one, or multiselect by click-and-dragging the mouse right button) and delete them (pressing DEL); this action deletes the sample tracks content but leaves the format such as understandable midi notes names (on the left side of Reaper you still see track names such as “DRUMS”, “EVENTS”, “BEATS”…)

                      – find Insert Media from the menus to load your extracted midi file; when asked, choose to keep multiple midi tracks separate and to include the tempo map

                      – the midi tracks will probably not load properly aligned to the track names on the left pane, you can drag and drop them up and and down until they match, make sure not to change their left-right alignment however

                      – to make it easier to edit a specifictrack, you can optionally load a color map to show notes in the same color as in the game; IIRC you have to first open the track for editing (double click on it) then there should be a menu in the editor to load one of the C3 color maps but I’ll leave the details to others cause I don’t remember by memory

Then you’re ready to make your difficulty reductions. In each track except ProKeys you’ll see the notes for all difficulties. Most of the work will be about deleting notes, so it’s not really difficult, but let’s get to it later <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
