February 23, 2020 at 7:48 am #397557Hey y’all,Just as a bit of a warning, I’m going to start off by saying that my music taste is…a bit all over the place. Some of these artists you may know! Some, you may be just discovering through this thread, but I hope you’ll have the same experience in listening as I’ve had. Some of these bands are here for the sake of nostalgia; I know, some might see it as blasphemous that I’m going to have third wave emo mixed in with second wave emo, but it’s what I grew up on, and some of those songs are simple guilty pleasures that I’d love to be able to jam to with my buds!If anyone on this thread would be willing to help make some of these a reality, it’d mean the world to me! If nothing else, just knowing I could help some people find new music to listen to would be great; do let me know if any of these songs make it onto your playlists! Now, onto the list…SPOTIFY PLAYLIST:THE SONGS:In Fate’s Hands – The Red Jumpsuit ApparatusThis song comes from one of the more underrated third wave emo acts. Fun guitar track, screaming vocals, killer tune!Megan – Smoking PopesUnderrated classic from the ’90s. Bayside has a great cover as well. Simple song, great guitar solo!Television / So Far So Good – Rex Orange CountyMy favorite Rex Orange County song. Best way to describe it is chaotic, but with a certain charm. Another (fuzzed out) guitar solo! They’re Not Horses, They’re Unicorns – BaysideFirst thing you’ll notice with this song is the killer riff. Guitar work is exceptional, would be a fun chart.Devotion And Desire – BaysideAnother Bayside tune, this is the most well known song in their catalog. Guitar work is exceptional (as you’d probably expect from Bayside.)My Darkest Hour – Scary Kids Scaring KidsOkay…this is where we get to the cringier part of mid-2000’s emo. What can I say though, it is pretty darn catchy.Never Fight A Man With A Perm – IDLESIf you haven’t heard of IDLES yet…boy, are you in for a treat. Lead singer Joe Talbot is perhaps the angriest yet surprisingly witty frontman in rock today and this song highlights that more than any other. Guitars and drums are fun, would make for a great chart.Colossus – IDLESThis song served as my introduction to IDLES. If you have the time, do check out a live version of this song. The build is fantastic and the energy they play this with is unrivaled. GOES AND IT GOES AND IT GOES.Spin – Taking Back SundayOne of the more underappreciated Taking Back Sunday songs, always preferred this to MakeDamnSure personally. Typical TBS aggressiveness, would make for a fun chart. Also was in a Madden ’07 trailer! There’s No ‘I’ In Team – Taking Back SundayThis is admittedly pretty low on my favorites from this list from a song standpoint. Still, when you lived through the Taking Back Sunday/Brand New feud, this song has its merit.Until We Get Caught – Hit The LightsCan’t remember if this was also in a Madden ’07 trailer, but it was an integral part of one of the greatest sports game soundtracks of all time. Plus it has that slightly cringy mid-late 2000’s charm to it!Wedding Singer – Modern BaseballFinally, a modern (pun intended) inclusion. Another song with charm, this time without the cringe. Check this band out if you haven’t already, singers Jake Ewald and Brendan Lukens have excellent chemistry and even drummer Sean Huber is capable of laying down some solid vocals (see Your Graduation.) Their cover of Dope Calypso is also quite fun. Speaking of which…Dope Calypso – Violent SohoGuitar work on this song’s simple but still sick. Vocals are a bit of an acquired taste.Using – Sorority NoiseLet’s talk about Sorority Noise: Cam Boucher’s emotional vocals over a relatively simple, but heavy guitar riff are an absolute treat. The key change for the final chorus puts this song over the top for me.Art School Wannabe – Sorority NoiseFeatures guest vocals from Modern Baseball’s Jake Ewald and has one of my favorite guitar solos of the last decade. Also a part of the (in my opinion) criminally underrated Watch Dogs 2. I mean, the first game didn’t do it any favors, but I digress. Anyways, back to the music…No Halo – Sorority NoiseGuitar work in this song is melodic with an edge. Highlights the versatility of the band, as the ambience found in the verses builds into and blends seamlessly into the heaviness of the chorus. Cam’s vocals are, again, strong and rather gutting. Tremendous song worthy of a chart. This Is Who We Are – Hawthorne HeightsOne of my personal favorite third wave emo songs, this also tends to get overlooked in favor of the artists’ more popular work. Instrumentals for this and the following track are available on Spotify as well FWIW.Niki Fm – Hawthorne HeightsAlong with Ohio Is For Lovers and Saying Sorry, this was one of the songs that defined Hawthorne Heights. Forgot to mention in the last description, but both of these songs have the traditional emo breakdown which, I might add, always hits.Know It All – LagwagonIn some alternate universe, Lagwagon has emerged as a part of the ’90s pop punk big three along with Green Day and blink-182. Is that a universe we want to live in? Well…no, but I’ve always felt they were underrated in that scene. This song has a pretty sick riff and the lyrics are as relevant now as ever!Accident Prone – JawbreakerOne of the first true emo songs, though their standing as an “emo” band is widely debated to this day. This is one of my favorite second-wave emo songs; Hayley Williams has a great acoustic cover on YouTube.Bad Scene, Everyone’s Fault – JawbreakerAlright, I admit that some of the songs on this list come from one of my other favorite video game soundtracks, NCAA Football 06. Still a fun song, definitely more punk than emo. Excellent storytelling and the drums in particular are what interests me most.Basilica – JawbreakerOne of their darker songs, builds very well into some extremely distorted guitars. Simple, but solid. My Heart – ParamoreParamore is very well represented on this site, which is absolutely fantastic. Thank you guys for all that you do. This is, personally, my favorite Paramore song, and I’d love to see it get charted. Also, *SCREAMING VOCALS*The Words “Best Friend” Become Redefined – ChiodosOne of my favorite guitar riffs from that third wave of emo. Also has potential to make for a nice keys chart. Very melodic/aggressive song.Inside Out – Trash BoatWas lucky enough to see these guys live at a local bar. Pure energy, though this song (and the album it comes from in particular) is much more focused on the heaviness in its’ guitar work than melodies, at least compared to songs like Tring Quarry.Shade – Trash BoatAnother song from the album “Crown Shyness” that shows more of an aggressive side from the band musically. Another banger.Strangers – Trash BoatThis comes from their previous album where they were still trying to find their sound. Despite this, this song is pure, raw emotion and actually quite pretty. The drums are…well, Nothing I Write (About) Them Can…see, this was going to be a play on the title of the album. I’m not the wittiest person, guys. But basically, I can’t do the drumming on this song justice through my words. Do check this one out, this is definitely one of the highest on my list.Sex – The 1975Simple. Still a fantastic tune.People – The 1975This…well, it’s not exactly my favorite song of theirs, but it certainly packs a punch and made me respect them that much more. Don’t be deceived by their looks, they are remarkably versatile; almost The Cranberries-esque.After the Party – The MenzingersNo, not the Billie Eilish song. The album of the same name is one of the absolute best of the last decade and I’d highly recommend them if you’re looking for some modern punk.I Don’t Wanna Be An A****** Anymore – The MenzingersKeeping this family friendly lol. The music video is a treat, the song behind it is even better.Tellin’ Lies – The MenzingersHas one of those big, classic rock openings and a rather dramatic ending. For a punk band, their stuff can be quite deep when it wants to be.The Bars – The MenzingersGreat riff, great tune.Trashbag Baby – SWMRSSo, first off, a bit of background on this band; you might be surprised to find out drummer Joey Armstrong is the son of Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. Anyways, this is a great song by a great band worth checking out.D’You Have A Car? – SWMRSThis is the first of three songs from their debut album “Drive North.” Fun bass line, simple drums and guitar.Figuring It Out – SWMRSThe chanting vocals featured in the intro/chorus certainly serve as an earworm. The solos in this song are fun and the bridge is an unexpected but brilliant change of pace.Palm Trees – SWMRS“Sarah Smiles in denial…”You’re Not Alone – SaosinThis third-wave emo banger is just fun to belt along to for karaoke. Guitar work’s solid. The Reaper – As It Is ft. Aaron GillespieAs someone who grew up on Underoath, seeing them work with one of my current favorite pop punk acts in the midst of an MCR phase…well, let’s just say it made me a very happy man. Gillespie’s drumming is fantastic even if his vocals at the end aren’t as…sharp as they usually are.Ize of the World – The StrokesOne of my personal favorite Strokes songs, and surprisingly one of the few songs not covered here. Looking purely from a melodic standpoint, one of their best.New York City Cops – The StrokesOne of their rarer releases that had to be scrapped from their debut album “Is This It.” Another favorite.Moods Like English Weather – The Gospel YouthBest way I can describe former singer Sam Little’s voice is a mix of Patrick Stump and Brendon Urie. One of my absolute favorite singers out there, though a scandal led to his departure from the band and music in general. “Well, I guess I messed things up again.”Gin and Black Coffee – The Gospel YouthGuitar work and vocals are excellent, and the ending is quite brilliant by itself.Tired Eyes and Heavy Hearts – The Gospel YouthOof. The lyrics are…well, unfortunate in hindsight. Song is basically Sugar We’re Goin Down reimagined from a musical standpoint (at least at the start.) Still catchy, still oh so good.Bloodlines//Love Stopped Me Coming Home – The Gospel YouthThe intro for this song could legitimately be used to open an anime. Maybe it’s just me. Still, some excellent pop punk from these guys. Might as well recommend the whole album at this point (“Always Lose.”)Smoke And Mirrors – Courage My LoveThough they’re mostly doing dance music at this point, their debut album “For Now” had some rather great rock tunes, especially “Smoke And Mirrors.” Female vocalist and a rather sick guitar solo to boot!Dead Wrong – SomosFun, fast paced track from a very underrated band. Guitarist Phil Haggerty tragically passed away this last August. Phil was a true activist and brilliant guitarist, and he is missed to this day; his work on this song being charted would be pretty cool.Die Romantic – AidenFast paced mid-2000’s emo-punk with a killer half-time breakdown. You know the drill.Cry Out – One OK RockLet’s get weird for these last two. J-Rock (Japanese rock) stalwarts One OK Rock have been charted on this site before, but my personal favorite song of theirs comes off of their “35xxxv” album because of the riffs this song features. I feel it would make for a great chart.Hosanna – Hillsong UnitedI know, I know. It’s a worship song. I know…CCMDespite the stigma surrounding this genre, this is one of my favorite songs, secular or non secular. I’d love to see it get charted more than anything, as it brings me back to my days of going to youth group at my church. A lot of my friends who I grew up with certainly feel the same. Plus, that solo man…If you read through this mess of a thread, thank you. Here’s hoping that some of these get charted, or that some of you at least are able to find some new music for your playlists!February 23, 2020 at 10:48 pm #509884

I’d love to help out but unfortunately my knowledge of this stuff isn’t exactly on the same level as the collaborators here (understatement lol.) I do have a bit of musical experience FWIW, if I can be of any assistance, just not familiar with the charting process. Thank you for being willing btw!
