Just to clarify a bit…
I am still learning how to chart customs, and I want to start by adding missing instruments or reductions on existing songs. Unfortunately the Reaper project files are not available, so I have to work from the CONs.
I would like to use the C3 template in Reaper, but when I add the audio and midi files extracted from the CON, they don’t load into the template but get added in parallel and I have to manually move everything.
I was wondering if I am just being dumb and there is a better quicker way to create a Reaper project from a CON that fits everything into the C3 template.
July 17, 2019 at 7:01 pm #506074Not quite sure what you mean by “added in parallel”.
I’ve opened some cons to take a look at them and the only issues that I generally have are:
a) if audio is encrypted then obviously it doesn’t playback in Reaper
the midi tracks are not ordered the same as the C3 template
c) the imported tracks are hidden by the existing midi tracks which then have to be deleted
They have always separated into individual tracks for me. I’m trying to remember if there is a checkbox when importing to that effect?
July 17, 2019 at 9:46 pm #506080Yes they separate if I choose so when importing the midi file. It’s both and c) but also the color maps won’t load for them. Having to copy-paste them around and not being able to see the notes color is annoying, that’s why I asked if there is a better way to load midi from an existing custom.
July 17, 2019 at 10:56 pm #506082See below for the complete process I use. Since I never saw this in total on these forums, I’ve had to learn all this mostly on my own. So if someone has some tips that makes it easier, feel free to chime in. But there’s never been anything I’ve ever seen that has been inclusive of all steps like below. Hope it helps!
1. Open C3 CON Tools.
2. Drag your desired CON file into C3 CON Tools program (any blank area in the tool). The file should be in its own folder all by itself. This will open up a new window with the CON file contents.
3. Click each button at the bottom (DTA, MIDI, PNG_XBOX, MOGG) to copy file information onto the clip board and paste those files into the same folder the CON file resides.
4. Extract audio – In the C3 CON Tools, click on the Phase Shift Converter button. A new window appears.
5. Drag the CON file you want converted into the window. (Note: You must CLOSE any other C3 Tools windows that you’ve previously opened)
6. Click the Begin button. This will create a new folder that will house the audio file you will need to use for conversion.
7. Open Reaper
8. Create a new template.
9. Drag the .mid file that was created from the CON tools into Reaper at Mark 1 to get an accurate tempo map.
10. Drag the audio file that was created from the Phase Shift conversion (guitar.ogg) into Reaper in the Song Audio track at Mark 1.
11. You now have a properly set up file. You will need to copy/paste the midi instrument files into their proper file locations in the template.
12. Compile as usual.July 18, 2019 at 7:06 am #506086See below for the complete process I use. Since I never saw this in total on these forums, I’ve had to learn all this mostly on my own. Thanks!
I’m doing mostly the same except I used Batch Extractor to get the files, in which case the audio includes all the blank tracks as well, but for upgrading customs it’s not a problem since eventually I’d be sending just the updated midi to the original author.
The annoying part is 11. I was hoping there was a way to import everything right since the start.
Also for some reason whenever I copy paste existing midi tracks into the template, color-coding doesn’t work… making reading and editing very prone to errors.
July 18, 2019 at 8:07 am #506087This is how I upgrade songs, I have done many of these. For my own use I always compile a new con
See below for the complete process I use. Since I never saw this in total on these forums, I’ve had to learn all this mostly on my own. So if someone has some tips that makes it easier, feel free to chime in. But there’s never been anything I’ve ever seen that has been inclusive of all steps like below. Hope it helps!
1. Make new folder on desktop
2. Drag con into that folder
3. Open C3 CON Tools.
4. Click on the Phase Shift Converter button. A new window appears.
5. Drag the CON file you want converted into the window. (Note: You must CLOSE any other C3 Tools windows that you’ve previously opened)6. Click the Begin button. This will create a new folder called music that will house the audio file, mid file & album PNG you will need to use for conversion or upgrade.
7. Open Reaper
8. Create a new template.
9. Drag the .mid file that was created from the Phase Shift converter into Reaper at Mark 1 to get an accurate tempo map.
10. Drag the audio file that was created from the Phase Shift converter (guitar.ogg) into Reaper in the Song Audio track at Mark 1.
11. If the con has say guitar/drums. Delete guitar/drums tubes from C3 template, then highlight & drag guitar/drums tubes from the midi you inserted to the C3 template vacant slots. I hate copy/paste so do it this way.Be sure to have snap to grid on.
12. Upgrade the custom
13. Compile as usual.
I used Rob’s message cause I am to lazy right now to type all that ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
