Looking for Advice on my First Custom

I am currently working on my first custom ever, Dredg – Sanzen. I have finished the guitar part and started on bass and wanted to ask if anyone could look at my guitar part and provide feedback. One thing that immediately stands out is that my notes don’t line up perfectly with the grid but it does with my song. I am still working on cleaning up some of the parts but this is mainly what i wanted to get some tips from. The BPM on average is 135 and until later parts of the song is in 3/4.
I used a MIDI file that was converted from a Guitar Pro tab which contained the tempo map. I’ve read through Farottones tutorial (much appreciated for that!) and always have watched through pksages “Let’s Author” stream for guidance and knowledge. Any help is appreciated.
The fact that your notes don’t line up with the grid, but do line up with the song means your tempo map is no good.
Eff! I was afraid of that… I’ll read around to see how I can fix that without having to start over. Thanks for taking the time to reply RealCheese!
” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />You’re gonna have to fix the tempo map. And then there’s no easy way to just copy/paste all your notes over. You won’t be completely starting over, but you’ll be doing a lot of work to fix it. This is why you’ve got to always get your tempo map perfect before you start doing anything else.
Lesson learned! I may just start a new project. Wasn’t too bad getting the notes to line up. I have a pretty good MIDI file except the BPM of the MIDI file is less than the BPM of my audio file. I’ll keep messing with it.
I just started charted my first song too! Its a fun and frustrating process for sure.
I actually started one before the one I am doing now but gave up on it because it didn’t play well. Was the tempo map all along!
For my new song I think I have redone the tempo map like 7 times now to get things where I want them.
Anyway, the point is, I learned the hard way that if you start with an EXCELLENT tempo map everything else seems to fall in to place.

It’s just a lot to learn and know about but it definitely is fun, and I’m sure it’s going to be extremely satisfying to play a custom you worked so hard to create! I’m going to continue on with trying to complete this custom… Might be a year before I’m done but I’m going to stick with it lol

It definitely is very satisfying to play your first custom! My first being August last year, the excitement for me was unreal when I put my flash drive in the Xbox and my very first custom showed up… I knew the potential right away for getting better and better at it and I knew that it would become a new hobby for sure lol. Even though it didn’t have overdrives, drum fills, and the guitar/bass sustains were all touchy (not to mention the charts themselves weren’t great), it was still a super rewarding experience!
As for advice, as mentioned already the tempo map is for sure the most important part! When everything is lined up right, it makes it so much easier to chart and saves a lot of headache. Another tip is to get CAT working, it saves so much time with parts of the song like animations, reductions, and more.
