Help on how to do Guitar Charting?

So I’m ready to try charting guitar and most tutorials suggest using FoF and as many of you probably already know the newest version of FoF doesnt work you get an error that says “see logfile for details”. Ive been on google and some of the FoF forums to see how this is fixable but either most websites it leads you to, is dead, or most of the tutorial videos on how to fix the error are in Spanish.
There was one more thing I found called FoFix which launches the application on my computer just fine but I see no options on charting guitar and there really isn’t any tutorials that I could find on how to chart guitar using this application most videos are on how to play customs that have already been made.
So how can I chart guitar? is there something I’m missing in how to fix FoF or how to chart stuff in FoFix? I really don’t care which application I use I just want to chart guitar parts

There are programs on this site that allow you to open up already-completed songs in Reaper, so you could try that to see how a chart should look in Reaper.
Yeah i guess but most of the songs I want to make a custom for their aren’t any MIDI’S out there for:/ that’s what I get for being a metalhead ha ha, but i read something in the tutorial about charting guitar with Reaper requires some knowledge about actual guitar playing? Which I have none of but I do know kinda how the game works where green is low notes and as you progress up the fret board the pitch is supposed to be higher in game. I mean just looking at Reaper now the FORCE HOPO ON/OFF which I’m guessing refers to Hammer-ons like what does all that mean?…….. its just kinda confusing ha ha are their any docs to read about guitar charting?

I find EOF a significantly simpler tool for authoring. You will have to import your midis to Reaper to finish up the song later. I’d recommend making guitar charts for Phase Shift until you get that part figured out. Then come back by here when you’re more comfortable and you’ll have a much easier time learning the rest.

That’s totally fine, same here! I’m just referring to taking a CON file from this website and opening it up to see how it works.

Yeah I wouldn’t worry too much about not being an actual guitar player. It definitely helps, but if you are familiar with how these games work, then that is a great start!

So I assume you are familiar with hammer-ons and pull-offs in-game, the smaller notes that don’t require you to strum. Whether or not a note is a HOPO is determined by it’s distance from the note proceeeding it, but FORCE HOPO ON/OFF allows you to override this by making any note a HOPO or not.
I definitely recommend the guitar docs link RealCheese just posted. Beyond that, I will be making a video series for the complete charting process in Reaper, so keep a look out for that!
I would also recommend using Reaper as for me it makes sense to just keep things all in one place, ultimately it is up to you what you decide to use.
It is also very helpful to look at gameplay videos to see how particular bands or styles of music have already been charted.
If you cannot find gameplay videos you can open up existing .con files in reaper (download the C3 Con Tools and use Batch Extractor) or you can use a program called CPlayer to open up a .con file and see how the chart looks visually as it plays through the song.
The docs that RealCheese linked will take you through chord shapes and wrapping notes which is also very helpful.
Since I have started to learn how to chart I find myself looking at other peoples preview videos to see how they did it.
As far as metal goes, many metal bands are quite popular with guitarists, and the guitar tab sites have decent tabs for many such songs.
You can get tab-reading software, and use the tabs to help locate notes. The tabs also let you export MIDIs.
So, even though you can’t find a MIDI for your song, you can often find a good guitar tab, and use that exactly like you would a MIDI.
The link to the download you sent me for EoF only gives me a text file of the link to the website you gave me. Is there something I’m doing wrong?
The rest of the comments didnt pop up till now I am using Reaper for the moment since many suggest it im starting out with a slower paced song. I do in the future worry about faster paced songs where the only example i can give is the custom song Jambi by Tool where during the break down it has 3 fast green notes where you strum three times very quickly and maybe you have a second break before you rinse and repeat over and over. Really in general like in songs like Fight Fire With Fire by Metallica or BYOB by System of A Down where there’s a series of notes very quickly just looking at Reaper I’m just like “How in the world would I be able to chart that”
