Harmonies, but only a little

I’ve been playing Rock Band since its inception, having gotten into this type of music game when Guitar Hero 2 released. Rock Band 3 was my favorite and I’d play for 8 hours at a time sometimes. I played every instrument.
However, I didn’t play multiplayer much, and there’s one thing I never even touched:
Harmonies.
I’m currently upcycling “A Mansion in Darkness” by King Diamond from Beard’s guitar-only chart to a full band chart, and it has a few harmonies in it, but I’m looking for some general philosophy as to how harmonies in general are supposed to be charted.
Here’s what I mean…. with this song as an example, the way I have it charted is that currently, HARM1 sings 95% of the song. Every once in a while, HARM2 and HARM3 come in for some chords. This is how the song is recorded, but that seems boring for the HARM2 and HARM3 players. Is this how it’s supposed to be?
I suppose it wouldn’t be boring for H2 and H3 if they were also playing instruments… is that how most people play?

EDIT: Thanks for moving, mods!
April 4, 2018 at 6:06 pm #496742Well it depends on the song, if there is a fully fleshed out harmony part then one of my band mates will step up to one of the extra mic stands. If the harmonies are like you said just the chorus or just some refrains, then anyone else in the band – drums, strings or keys – can sing along to the chorus while they play their parts. But even when I’m just playing solo or with two players, I will always choose to play with harmonies, I mean why not, there’s no penalty for not singing them and occasionally you can pull off a double-awesome all by yourself.

That’s the kind of thing I’m looking for! Thanks, I think that clears it up. I’ll post a video of the song here once I have it compiled and on my PS3 for recording.

April 6, 2018 at 2:57 am #496824Here is the completed song with harmonies included. I’m trying to upload now, but getting an error with my link for the 2x bass pedal version, which I posted about in the c3 troubleshooting group.
April 6, 2018 at 10:35 am #496829Only issues I see with the vocals are the last words of many of the phrases, where the singer is obviously trailing off and down the scale, but you’ve got a long, static note, so the singer would be forced to sing very differently from what the audio actually contains. That being said, you should shorten those notes, but most all of the notes everywhere else as well. The best way to show you what I mean is to actually sing this song yourself on hard or expert and try to fill every tube completely. If you’re filling them completely, you’ll notice you aren’t having much fun or sounding very “accurate” compared to the actual vocalist. This link might help.
On the subject of harmonies, though, you’ve got what you should have there. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” /> Good job. And smart use of talkies.

Agreed. There’s also a spot where notes are actually too short. I think it actually looks pretty nice if this is a first crack at vocals/harmonies and the unpitched notes are spot on.
April 7, 2018 at 6:24 pm #496883Yes! I had actually already fixed those trail-offs, but only in the vocals track. Since HARM1 is so similar, I forgot I had to change that as well. Same with some of the punctuation in the lyrics that’s against protocol. It’s now replicated to the HARM1 track.
I’ve now released this chart to the database. Thanks, everyone!
