    Hi all,

I have recently started to chart customs, and through the excellent support found on these forums and a lot of trial and error I have managed to produce a couple (not yet released though).

My third attempt has however left me clueless. After tempomapping a song and charting bass I have run it though Magma without errors. When I scroll through my songs in-game, the console immediately freezes when this song comes up. I tried deleting the cache file without solving the issue. I’m thinking there must be something wrong with either the dta-file (?) or the audio preview? But I have no idea what to look for really… the file works in both Cplayer and in Con tools’ visualizer.

Are there any typical causes of errors of this kind?

The Visualizer will usually throw an error if there’s an issue with the DTA file.

Something that’s caught me lately is MIDI issues where a track looks like it has everything it’s supposed to in REAPER, but then when I open the exported MIDI file directly, something is off about the track name. Magma will almost always catch errors like this, but if you skip Magma… which, you know, I never do (cough)… then this can become an issue.

If nothing else, you can post your CON somewhere for downloading. That will enable people to help narrow down which chain is falling off its gear.

      Thank you FujiSkunk!

The song is “Cigarettes and whiskey” performed live by Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, and the CON file should be available here:

If anyone wants to have a look I would be grateful, it is probably just some rookie mistake that I’m too much of a rookie to pinpoint:)

Found it. The png_xbox file for the album artwork was corrupted somehow. You opted for the default “C3” image, which is perfectly fine, but for some reason the file that was actually saved with the CON file wasn’t good. That’s why it would show up as all black in the Visualizer, if you happened to notice that. The 360 was being less graceful about the failure.

C3’s Magma provides the default artwork as a BMP file. I used Advanced Art Converter to turn that into an png_xbox file, and then used Batch Extractor to replace the existing png_xbox file with the new one. The CON is working now. I recommend trying this yourself to get a feel for how these utilities in C3 CON Tools work, but recompiling the song in Magma should work as well. If you want to be paranoid, pull in the actual album art into Magma, or any other picture if this song didn’t come from an album, and let it compile with that instead of the default C3 image.

Cool song, by the way. I like ’70s stuff, but I hadn’t heard this one before.

Now that you mention it I kind of remember the artwork shown in-game as being some generic rock band thingy, and not the C3 one.

Thanks a lot for helping me out!
