Hi

So my ex showed me a song ages ago, and it’s come back into my head recently and I don’t know why but it’s really pissing me off, because I’ve been on a mad song hunt (collecting for C3 for when I return to charting) and so far I’ve done an excellent job of finding songs – even when the only thing I can remember is like three lyrics or something.

My music knowledge is not too bad overall, although I do have significant holes in it . And this song, so far, eludes me.

I’m like 85-90% sure the song is by Pink Floyd, but I’ve gone through so much of their stuff trying to find it already and I’m losing hope D’:

The significant part I can remember is a multiple male vocal chorus effect part that goes “Oooh, Ooh-Ooh” accompanied by a slightly off-beat drum groove, which consists of intermittent but sharp snare and tom hitting that roughly travels down the kit (so snares first then finishing on toms and maybe a crash at the end of some measures) – it’s a very pleasant piece altogether.

    Additional Information:

    1. The part in question is likely an interlude, or a long bridge section that repeats at least twice, about maybe 8 measures in length.
    2. The “Ooh” vocals are quite drawn out – it’s like a medium length high-ish (most likely in between C4-C5 on a PART VOCALS track lets say) note followed by two slightly lower notes all in key and harmonic etc.
    3. The singers are either singing in unison or in a possible subtle block harmony.

The rest of the song, while I can’t remember anything of it I know it was comparably darker/less melodic in tone, I didn’t like it. That’s alls I know about the other parts (I suppose I didn’t commit them to memory since they didn’t appeal to me). The two “parts of the song (this bridge/interlude section and the verses etc.) were actually quite lot different from one another – that’s probably the songs most prominent feature: how much these two parts contrasted eachother.

The overall composition was a bit unusual (typical of Pink Floyd), the tempo was quite low (about 90bpm) and that’s why I feel like it was a Pink Floyd song, but I might be terribly wrong unfortunately :sigh:

I would sing the “ooh” notes, or put them through a synth, but I can’t remember the exact pitches, so the key would be wrong which might only serve to muddy the water.

I’m hoping this will be a bit more of a fun exercise (omg we could totally make this a game in future – except where I already know the song haha) than a super urgent cry for assistance with something – I wouldn’t want people to feel obliged – It’s mainly that I don’t know much Pink Floyd (or other artists with a similar style) but I bet many other people with a more complete music knowledge will, and this song has me thoroughly stumped, so I HAD to post about it (I am so close to having listed all the songs I want!)

Thanks to anyone who can help me out at all, and well done for reading the whole post

Wouldn’t be the middle (9:10-ish) of Atom Heart Mother, would it?

Ahh No, but I can’t stop smiling at how closely it actually fits the description haha, that was very good, thanks for posting man

It’s much more “light”, like happy sounding than that. I have just been on a SERIOUS Pink Floyd binge, and I’m just wondering why I put myself through it haha XD

I’m not a fan of pink Floyd overall but I found a couple songs I like, and I’ve noted them down.

I would add a list of all the pink Floyd songs it’s definitely NOT, but y’know I don’t expect people to take too much notice, it’s just for a bit of fun and you never know, there might’ve been the off chance someone would immediately know what it is haha, (hey I’m an optimist)

Mind you, something like this might make an interesting game on the forums – maybe I could do a sort of tough song quiz, and whoever can guess the weekly song or whatever can request a custom – it might be a cool way for some non-charters to get involved and get some of the customs they really want.

Thanks again for replying! I’m still smiling at how well that song matched my description haha, but it’s much happier sounding – the oohs are really high and gentle, and the drumming is really noticeably off-beat in comparison.

Yeah… unfortunately I’m only really familiar with their 70’s albums, and that’s the only song I can think of that remotely matches. Best of luck in your search, man.

Thanks dude, I’m thinking it might be from a different band (maybe the rolling Stones? I can’t think of any other similar bands she liked tbh), I just know that she liked pink Floyd, and I thought I remembered it being pink Floyd, but the more I listen of their stuff the more I think it might not quite be their style (they have quite diverse songs too).

Plus, ones memory can be really shit at it’s job lol

Yeah, would be so much easier if you could remember some lyrics. Then it’s just a quick google search away.

Those guys are so weird. There’s another song I think off that album about sheep or goats or cows or something like that.

They were on some weird stuff.

I instantly thought of the ending to ‘The Happiest Days of Our Lives’, in which the last 18 seconds do indeed sound like a bridge that leads into ‘Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2’. At 104 bpm, that’s close to your estimate of 90. Rest of the song is certainly darker and far less melodic.

      If that’s not it, I don’t know.

Haha, that’s absolutely it! Thank you so much!

Also thanks to everyone who replied, pink Floyd really aren’t a band a like much, but I’m always willing to give any music a chance, and I actually had great fun listening to all of their stuff, and even added some other songs I didn’t expect to thanks to your suggestions.

It’s a good feeling to have a list of (almost literally) everyone song I could possibly want.

Like I said, I don’t have a totally gapless music knowledge, but I will probably publish my list at some point and it has a lot of those songs which make you go “ahhh that one” haha, so hopefully I can maybe help some other people scratch that itch.
