I’m currently in the process of editing the midi’s of all the songs in my library that are missing keys. I’m copying the guitar track and editing the .dta file so that when I have people over that enjoy playing the keyboard, I don’t have to kick them off the instrument or exclude a player. I’ve done a few hundred so far, but I still have a long way to go. I was just wondering if there was a more efficient way to do this, like using the upgrade bundler or something. My current routine is: Open the song in C3ConTools, extract the midi and .dta, copy the guitar track in Reaper and rename it to “KEYS,” edit the .dta to include the proper difficulty, and then overwrite the old data with the new .dta and midi. Has anyone attempted something like this with a better strategy?
EDIT: After a couple months of work, my small little project is finally finished.
Every song in my library that was missing a key part now has a duplicated guitar track. Now the game can comfortably support Guitar, Bass, Drums, and Keys at the same time without sacrificing any of the size of my library. It was such a drag having to kick the key player off at parties because someone wanted to play a certain song. And this finally answers many of my casual friends’ question of, “can we have 2 people play guitar at the same time?” Very happy to have it finished.

July 30, 2016 at 12:06 am #472619Hey I think I found a solution in my thread with regards to upgrading harmonies, thanks for your help with that ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
Regarding this, I don’t really know how it could be made easier, it seems like something program/script related would be required, much like the upgrade bundler itself.
However, I had a thought about this whole idea – Obviously, all of the competitive song modes were omitted from RB3 local play.
But, using this idea we could add an “artificial” score duel 5 button guitar only mode.
Basically it would allow two people to compete, one plays 5 lane keys, one plays guitar.
It’s really scrappy but I could imagine it being fun, and and allows at least very limited head to head style local gameplay in RB3.
And then of course if people agreed it might be a could idea, a program can be coded to quickly make a “GuitarVGuitar” version of a song (all the other instruments would play as normal, it could like originally stated be something to simply keep the keys player occupied).
I figured C3 has generally allowed a lot of freedom with stuff like this, what with the implementation of Rhythm Guitar and whatnot. As the end goal is fun, well it doesn’t really matter how we go about things as long as that’s what we end up with ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
Sorry I couldn’t help more Halpert! I will look into this anyway because I find the concept as a whole quite interesting (obviously) and may decide to implement it for myself.
Hey you never know, Nemo seems pretty keen about making some quite “niche” programs. It might be worth trying to help this idea gain some traction, if enough people get behind it I guess it could become a “thing”.
July 31, 2016 at 2:24 am #472681Haha you just perfectly described one of the big reasons I’m doing this. 2 guitar tracks at a time and then comparing the score at the end results. I wouldn’t ask anyone to make a program for such a niche thing though.

July 31, 2016 at 2:29 am #472682Yeh haha well I have pretty much zero expertise in coding, that said I figured since it was literally a simple duplication + re-name (AFAIK) that it would be pretty simple to implement – but I’m probably just grasping at straws here.
I guess my thinking was if enough people liked and supported the idea it could make it worthwhile. Might end up not too popular with the coders here though haha (unless they also think it’s a good idea I guess) ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
