Hey guys, I’m planning on repainting my Strat but I have a few questions. I’ve done the pickguard before but I’m looking at doing the body this time. More I’m debating on if I want to cover with plastic and tape or if I want to take apart and do it like that. If you guys have any ideas or thoughts let me know and let me know if you’d like pictures of the project too

Taking apart is always easiest when it comes to painting but sometimes it’s quite difficult to get the electronics removed. It’s been a while since I’ve looked at the inside of the Strat so I couldn’t tell you if it’s worth it.

I’d honestly go with tape. If it’s done right it’ll turn out fine and you won’t have to worry about screwing up the internals. Assuming you’re using spray be sure to cover the holes around the whammy and strum bars so paint doesn’t get in and stick (I’m sure you already know this).

Yeah, upload pics! I’m curious to see how this turns out.

Taking apart is always better, take pics as you disassemble so you can put it back together the right way. And since there is nothing worse than having a killer paint job start wearing away after some long jam sessions, I use pledge floor care finish as a clearcoat, it is self leveling and if there is any problems it is easily removed with windex. Good luck and yes definitely post pics. Also check out docsrockbandmods.com you will find more instrument mods and painting tips.

I’m thinking about trying to do some sort of Marbling or pinstriping on it. I’m going through different thoughts on the pickguard and I thought about doing the body in either a Flat or Ultra Flat Black and doing a Stealth look, but I also like the shiny color looks.

          Hey man,
It’s been about a month since you posted this up, and was wondering how your project was coming along.
Being a DIY kinda guy, I’d love to see pics of your finished project if you would care to share. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
