oh my god i hate politics why am i doing this
So the UK has voted to leave the EU, leading to many scary concerns:
- The economy has plummeted
- The Prime Minster has quit
- England pulled Scotland and Ireland with it despite them wanting to stay
- This means a potential second referendum for Scotland (which was pretty close to declaring independence in the past) will break apart the UK
- Ireland may rejoin north and south to do so as well (tear down this wall!)
- High percentage of those who wanted to stay were 18-24 year-olds who will have to suffer this decision the longest
- Any current EU laws are nullified including those for LGBT rights/protection and abortion.
In any event this will lead to a severe political change across the entire world, though hopefully it won’t be too drastic.
So basically England left a foreign government body because they didn’t like how it intruded on the laws of their land. Seems a bit ironic, eh?
I’d say 2016 is a messed up year politically…but it’s been a messed up year in general.
P.S. Should you choose to respond, be aware I still hate politics and I don’t want any fighting so please be civil (which I know is redundant since if someone isn’t you wonderful admins will take care of it anyway). I shouldn’t have to say this on C3 but with politics it’s inevitable in any social situation.
June 24, 2016 at 9:03 am #470847And the same might happen next year in France if one of the parties wins of the elections. ..
June 24, 2016 at 9:12 am #470848Why would that be messed up? It’s a democratic choice… I’m not British, I didn’t have a dog in the fight, but one of the reasons why the people chose that way is this assuming that the people either do as they are told or they are stupid/racists/backwards/etc. Which is also why Donald Trump got to this point.
June 24, 2016 at 9:48 am #470849I’m not too knowledgeable about this whole situation so correct me if I’m wrong but from what I understand is the people decided to leave the EU for many reasons particularly xenophobia and refugee laws and didn’t bother to think about any repercussions as a result.
I hear Japan has stopped trading as well.
So yeah, kinda messed up.

Yes, half of Great Britain hates immigrants and is so dumb that doesn’t even realize what they are doing. It’s a Pulitzer-worthy kind of analysis. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>
June 24, 2016 at 11:03 am #470852Fair enough.
June 24, 2016 at 11:15 am #470853Just for reference, the whole referendum (or at least its philosophy) was set up in 2013 essentially, when the refugee crisis wasn’t really an issue. The idea was to have Great Britain renegotiate some rules with the EU. Meanwhile, my country’s stock exchange is down 10%.
June 24, 2016 at 2:19 pm #470861A little global socioeconomic upheaval is good every now and then. Keeps everybody on their toes.
I believe that the eminent statesman Zack De La Rocha said it best when he eloquently opined:
Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell meFuck you, I won’t do what you tell meFuck you, I won’t do what you tell meFuck you, I won’t do what you tell meFuck you, I won’t do what you tell meFuck you, I won’t do what you tell meFuck you, I won’t do what you tell meFuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!Motherfucker!Uggh!June 24, 2016 at 2:24 pm #470862Also, increased nationalism seems counterproductive in an increasingly global society, but these countries are going to have to eventually fight it out so that the United Federation of Planets can form in 100 years.
June 24, 2016 at 3:06 pm #470863I live in the UK and I’m thoroughly miserable with how this referendum has gone. The campaigning from both sides has been vicious and unproductive, not to mention full of dubious claims. When BOTH sides say ‘if you don’t go with us, the National Health Service will be ruined’, you know something’s not quite right.
Leave was voted for with 51.9% of the votes. Nigel Farage, one of the prominent (and particularly scaremongering/xenophobic) Leave campaigners said in May that if the Remain campaign won with only 52% of the vote, he would ‘insist on a second referendum’ because it wouldn’t be enough of a majority. Surprisingly, he’s not said anything about this today.
Additionally, Boris Johnson, another Leave campaigner who is front-runner to become the new Prime Minister, wrote in his regular newspaper column in February that leaving the EU would be damaging for the UK economy and for future generations. Once the referendum was announced TWO WEEKS LATER, he flip-flopped and headed up the Leave campaign. Cynical people might say this was purely to further his own political career, as it was always anticipated that David Cameron would resign if the UK voted to leave. I would agree with this view.
I’m frankly terrified by the idea of someone becoming Prime Minister who will so quickly and blatantly turn his back on his own beliefs to further his own career, even if he thinks and publicly says it’s at the expense of the population.
I don’t mean to rant, and if there’s anyone here who voted to Leave then that’s fine, it’s not my place to say if either side is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. My anger is with the politicians who have lied through the teeth (on both sides) throughout this whole campaign. Sigh ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />
June 24, 2016 at 3:49 pm #470866Well spoken, Ruck. Unfortunately the biggest problem about such issues nowadays is that this…
who have lied through the teeth (on both sides) throughout this whole campaignm
…is redundant after you say this:
politicians
June 24, 2016 at 4:01 pm #470867Haha ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” /> a good point well made FujiSkunk!

Going by that we were supposed to have a eugenics war in the 1990s and WWIII should be coming up about 10 years from now.
Though genetic manipulation is seemingly a big thing now. Maybe we’re just a bit behind?

June 24, 2016 at 5:27 pm #470874I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley.
