I’ve read the tutorials here about making a song in Reaper, but i just don’t understand the process. There’s just too much information at once and since i’m a total noob that has never worked in any software like this and doesn’t even play an instrument, i don’t understand the instructions.

I would very much appreciate it if someone could do a “Reaper for dummies” kind of thing, take the whole process step by step and explain it like you would do to a child. And by the whole process i’m talking everything, like from the very beginning on how to convert songs to midi and ogg all the way to the upload stage here on the site.

I think there are alot of people who would like to contribute to this site, but doesn’t understand how to get started and it all gets too frustrating to learn since there aren’t any clear step by step instructions.

There are some pretty good video tutorials in the “List of All Authoring Stuff” topic in the “Authoring Tools, Support, and Advice” forum which should give you a good start, however there aren’t any complete series of tutorials for all basic and advanced questions a lot of members have. I’m considering uploading some YouTube videos completely going over authoring in the near future but for now the aforementioned materials is what there is.

Unfortunately it’s an incredibly complex process to type out in a forum topic – not to mention it’s a lot more difficult to read than to see when it comes to understanding Reaper.

I actually don’t think there are. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”> This is a complex project. It takes time, a lot of time. And, and this is the key, it needs passion. And reading the rules and information is a pretty good filter: if anyone is REALLY interested in authoring, they will find the energy to learn. But if anyone needs a primer on even, in example, hitting FIle > Export project to MIDI, and can’t find the energy to find that out by reading and trying, they are better off saving some time not investing it in authoring. To be clear, in example there’s plenty of information on the Web on how to work with Reaper, Reaper is not a proprietary Harmonix software, it’s a DAW that is used all over the world: have you gone to the Cockos forums and asked how to use Reaper or where to find some tutorial? If not, start there, you first need to get acquainted with the software if you’re not familiar with a DAW.

i didnt know how to use reaper either. but after hours of reading(more like a day or 2) and a cool tutoral video that was posted you will be able to

start with the basics. also another important piece of info is the rbn documentation. that will assist you

greatly. theres plenty of info out there to help you succeed. i learned how to make files for rock band 3 as well as play them on my ps3 without asking for help

but a dummys guide would be cool except theres so much you can learn and theres already a video asking what your asking

        all found here:

        http://customscreators.com/index.php?/topic/8997-list-of-all-authoring-stuff-reaper-magma-tutorials-etc/

i do feel some things are not taught well enough and are a bit confusing.

Use pksage’s tutorial video for using reaper. I learned almost everything I needed to know about using the program for the sake of charting from watching the entire thing, especially combing over the first half of it repeatedly.

        I feel the same way

I watched pksages video multiple time, so I can tempo map and chart a song.

However, I know nothing about reaper and Im stuck frrom there. Dont know what to do from here

Does anyone still has pksage’s general “Let’s Author!” stream on twitch? I can’t seem to watch it.

          Really looking forward to authoring.
