March 7, 2016 at 10:11 pm #464858Well at least they mentioned RB3 instruments.
March 7, 2016 at 10:34 pm #464861A new Stage Kit (with the ability to use unlimited light pods) as well as a new Midi Pro Adapter for Xbox One would be swell. I do not have a use for anything else, such as new instruments.
March 7, 2016 at 10:42 pm #464864I can’t say I’m surprised. Mad Catz is on the verge of going out of business after losing big on RB4.
I guess finding a new co-publisher is better than no co-publisher at all.
It doesn’t look good for HMX at the moment.
March 7, 2016 at 10:42 pm #464865Assuming that the new controllers from these people will actually be GOOD, it’s a kick in the nuts to people who bought the shoddy MadCatz instruments. I don’t want to pay ~$150-200 for another full band kit because it’s better. This partnership should have happened before the release of the game so the consumers are ensured well-manufactured products. With that being said, I may or not buy the new instruments.

I think anybody who was going to buy RB4 on a console has probably *already* bought RB4. It doesn’t really matter who makes the peripherals if the game has limited room for growth.
March 7, 2016 at 10:54 pm #464867Hopefully they start producing more fog juice. I’m all out.

Nice.
Pretty sure that you can buy any fog juice from any party store for the Stage Kit; just check to see if you have to dilute it with something else first.
I actually never opened my juice (for a number of ventilation-related reasons); Stage Kit has a pretty good light show and is fun even without the fog, but yeah, fog takes it to a whole other level of awesome.
March 7, 2016 at 11:13 pm #464871Hopefully the instrument quality will be higher.
March 7, 2016 at 11:14 pm #464872I need to find a stage kit. Gonna be really hard to unless PDP goes bonkers and makes us all happy ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” /> and screw those shoddy MCtrollers, I have my Rock Band 2 kit still going!
March 8, 2016 at 1:21 am #464887You haven’t lived unless you have the fog pumping into a small room with 4-6 people in it, the door closed, and the windows open on Christmas.
Was lucky to have a decent temperature this past Christmas.
March 8, 2016 at 10:25 am #464911I’m not purporting to know a A LOT more than the average Joe, only a tiny bit more, but Rock Band 4 has absolutely and unequivocally not been a flop for Harmonix. The problem, both in practical terms and in communication terms, is that Mad Catz was expecting huge sales numbers all the while probably producing those peripherals cutting costs. So we had this scenario in which the developer was more than satisfied with sales numbers (hence the renewd push for updates, which cost money to produce and can’t be really marketed to new customers) but the co-publisher couldn’t be (also because they had other previous issues, but this is beyond the scope of this analysis).
So, a new hardware partner means they expect more sales but most importantly I think people missed the importance of being able to somehow go back to the PoS if a significant update hits. In example, let’s say they implement a real RPG-style campaign mode: does a tree make a sound when it falls if nobody is there to hear it? In other words, how can you invest a lot of money on a game mode if you can’t attract new customers with it? Maybe they are satisfied with their customer base, maybe not, and in that case having a partner who can easily reach the points of sale makes it easier to release a new updated version of the game for the retail market if they want. Plus of course there’s Rock Band 4 PC, which needs new instruments.
I am not a huge fan of how RB4 turned out to be, but in 5 months Harmonix has only delivered amazing news in terms of committment to the project and future support.

I do have to give Harmonix a lot of credit for that. Any developer who listens to the community and pushes out free updates with needed and wanted content has a lot of respect in my eyes. The problem with that (and this is with any developer, not specifically HMX) is releasing an “unfinished game” will lose you a lot of customers, especially the non-dedicated ones.
Overkill software (the minds behind PAYDAY: The Heist and its sequel) produced a lot of free and paid DLC as well as free needed updates. The thing that made them successful though was a significantly cheaper game. People don’t want to spend $250 on a game that may-or-may not get updates. Harmonix has proven themselves very reliable unlike other developers (see Atomic Game’s “Breach”) who practically abandon the game after release.
It’s not Harmonix’s fault of course. Just an observation.
As far as PDP as a new partner, I really hope this helps Harmonix. If this PC thing works out, having reliable instruments will help tremendously.
March 9, 2016 at 1:17 am #464951Not to beat a dead horse here but just a few things to add. I think anyone hopping on board is good news. They believe there is something here.
Also, I’m not thrilled with Rock Band 4 overall but I think anyone on this forum has been playing for many many years over the course of 3 – 5 versions of the game and has become spoiled with the quality Harmonix has created over this time.
We complain about updates and missing things in the game. It is almost impossible to find a game that is released on day 1 complete. It’s just the digital landscape of gaming these days.
I did buy every Harmonix band game ( including Guitar Hero when they made it ) including RB4. I have never liked the official RB series guitars, and even though I have the new version I do look forward to the opportunity to see hopefully a more well made version coming out.

March 9, 2016 at 2:04 pm #464960“They have the logistical and technical expertise to support Harmonix’s ambitious plans for the future of Rock Band, with new hardware alongside a major Rock Band 4 feature update coming this Fall” said Steve Janiak, Harmonix CEO.
I wonder what that entails…
