Hey guys,
This is probably the same thing you’ve seen/read a billion times, but I’m trying to chart a song from scratch and really having issues with the tempo mapping. I understand the concept and have referenced the following resources:
http://pksage.com/rbndocs/index.php?title=Tempo_Mapping
http://www.twitch.tv/pksage/c/2976214
I have also perused many of the tempo mapping threads here in the Support forum. I will keep at this until I finally get a handle on it, but support and advice is very welcome haha.
Right now the issue I’m having is that everything looks great on the Reaper side (I watched the preview video in the RBN plugin 4 times to make sure everything looked good before putting it in my Xbox) but on the Xbox the timing fluctuates a lot. Certain parts of the song are dead on and then others are something like 1/8 beat off. Then the end of the song is REALLY off (like 1/2 beat or maybe even a whole beat) but it looks dead on in Reaper. I’ve already downloaded and been using the ASIO sound thing (ran into that Reaper audio delay a couple weeks ago) so that’s not the problem.
Anyway, any insight would be great. I’m about to start over from scratch so…crossing my fingers for the best results I can possibly get! If anybody would like me to upload a WIP or anything just let me know.
Thanks!
December 8, 2015 at 6:21 am #460469Update: Starting from scratch was a terrible idea. Now I’m noticing that every time I place a “Q” on a peak, the measure before ends up slightly off. I’m assuming this means I’m doing it wrong, but I swear I am doing it on the first downbeat of every measure. Ugh. FML. I will beat this!!
December 8, 2015 at 7:12 am #460471I may be the only one who does this but I don’t use the Q feature. I just rough guess what tempo number it’ll take to get from beat 1 to beat 2 and 90 % of the time I can get there right away. This leads to a very detailed and accurate map. Non drummers are less anal because other instruments aren’t as noticeable if the map is slightly off.

I tried this as well and freaking sucked at it. I get what you’re saying though. I didn’t realize before this whole experience how much worse drumming feels when it’s slightly off as compared to guitar (as I have both charted for this song already)
On another note…I can’t play test it completely until tomorrow, as it’s 2:30 AM here. But. I THINK I DID IT.
HOLY FREAKING CRAP I THINK I ACTUALLY DID IT.
I FOUND THE METRONOME IN REAPER AND THAT HELPED WAY MORE THAN I EXPECTED. ON TOP OF THAT I REALIZED THAT WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE DOWNBEAT WAS ACTUALLY THE 2ND BEAT. MUSIC THEORY WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN TO ME!?
Sorry for the caps. I’m just really SUPER excited right now hahaha. I’m gonna play the song first thing when I wake up, and assuming all goes well I’ll be able to finish charting it and then upload it! YAY!
Also tomorrow (today) is my birthday so that was a cool gift to myself.
Anyway. If anybody else is struggling and finds this thread, enable the Metronome in reaper and double-triple-quadruple check which beats belong where. And take tempo changes seriously. There were 3 tempo changes in this song that I botched the other times I tempo mapped it and they completely effed everything up.
Okay I’m going to sleep now. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

December 8, 2015 at 1:24 pm #460477I wish I could have a birthday ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />
Anyway congratulations! I know firsthand how tough it is learning to map.
