< anglebracket's customs >
hey all,
i’ve been charting FoFiX / Phase Shift songs for myself for a good few years now, and when i found out RB3 customs were a thing i decided to give them a go. i have a bunch of songs finished, as well as several in the works at any given time, so i figured i’d try to put some out on a semi-regular basis for anyone besides me who’d happen to enjoy ’em. i chart everything except pro G/B and venues, including reductions.
May 28 – White Town and Chromeo
i have a really bad habit of jumping between projects as i grow bored working on the same thing for too long. over the last month this has resulted in me getting a lot accomplished, but not much actually ready for release. i do, however, have these two songs to show that i have in fact been doing things. first is one-hit wonder White Town’s “Your Woman”; a song you probably never thought you’d see in Rock Band, but here it is. second is electro-funk duo Chromeo’s breakout single in the US, “Jealous (I Ain’t With It). both of these songs have challenging, funky basslines that are a ton of fun to play, and Your Woman shines on keys as much as Jealous does on harmonies.
you can expect to see chart contributions from me in other people’s threads sometime soon…
May 1 – Sugar Ray 3-pack
so it’s been a while! since i had new stuff in my own thread, that is. for anyone who missed it, i helped out farottone with a big Yes release last week. go check it out over in his House of Customs thread. but this week i’m back with more Sugar Ray! kind of. i’m not very good with checking to see if someone’s already done something i’m working on, so i ended up with customs of Fly and Someday that were a bit unnecessary. fortunately, i’d charted some things the other folks (Nunchuck and Sygenysis) hadn’t, and Sy was kind enough to work with me on Frankensteining our customs together. these are the definitive versions! i’ve also done Falls Apart, a slightly less well known song off of 14:59, which has both a keys and a rhythm version. so without further ado:
April 2 – “Teenage Dirtbag” & “Sleeping with a Friend”
just got two songs this week, but two really fun ones. there’s been a Teenage Dirtbag custom floating around for a long while, but it’s drums-only and has pretty poor tempo mapping. i’ve given the ’00s one hit wonder the full band treatment it deserves – it’s easy all-around, but lots of fun for group play. i also have a Neon Trees song i’d been hoping Harmonix wouldn’t take, and as it turns out, i got lucky. Sleeping with a Friend is a bit of an underappreciated single, but my absolute favourite song by the band. the harmonies here are beautiful, and i personally think this custom has some of my best vocal authoring. if you’re a singer, definitely try this one out.
once again i’m not sure if i’ll have a release next weekend. quality over quantity i guess? i’ve got at least one collab release in April though, as well as something i’m sure you’ll all like towards the end of the month.
yikes, this one happened a lot later than usual. still, better late than never, especially when it means more Cure in RB3. this pack consists of some of my favourites of theirs from the late 80s; including a couple singles and one deep cut. all three are fun for drummers, and the two that feature guitar have rather unique styles for the Cure – freestyle funk on Hot Hot Hot!!! and flamenco-esque acoustic on The Blood. the keyboard parts are all around rather minimal, but each is fun in its own way. enjoy!
not sure if i’ll have anything for next weekend, but i’ll be contributing to a certain release in early April…
i’ve been tossing around the idea of doing a Slipknot custom for a while, and when a request for this song came up in December, i decided to do it. they’re not a favourite band of mine by any means, but this is one of a few songs of theirs that i really love. seems like there’s a strange dirth of Slipknot customs around here anyway, so here’s this!
i included the intro track from the album, because it seemed appropriate – they always play it before (sic) in concerts. there’s devil heads on all instruments for your pleasure/frustration/ankle cramps and solo vox has a lot (a LOT) of percussion sections, so if that’s not your thing, go with harmonies. zero dots either way.
finally – i’m working on a lot of stuff right now, and hopefully i’ll have a pack finished for next week; another underrepresented band, so stay tuned.
did i say pack? oops. singles week it is! another weird bunch. a song off of Metric’s arguably least popular album (which i happen to absolutely adore), Youth Without Youth is fairly easy all around but oh so much fun on drums and bass. Matt Nathanson is an artist who i believe has never been featured in Rock Band before; his song Kinks Shirt is a quirky little pop-rock number with fun harmonies. finally, Cake by the Ocean – a song that i’m almost embarrassed to admit that i like, but it’s one of those that’s just too catchy for me to not like. admittedly, it’s not very hard on any instrument (really just vocals) and there’s a fair chance it might end up on RB4 sometime, but hey – the mood struck me.
i’m working on stuff for both Chicago Chronicles and another project, so i probably won’t have a release of my own next week, but we’ll see!
EDIT 2016.04.11: R.I.P.D.N.C.E. In all fairness, Harmonix’ chart for this is probably better than mine. Still, a fun custom was lost today.
i won’t go on for a paragraph about how i haven’t been active for nearly two months, because hey, i’m back! this is the song i was originally going to release for the last week of 2015, but shit happened and oops it’s February. anyway, hope you all enjoy this deep cut; i’ll be attempting to start up weekly releases again soon. expect a full 3 songs next weekend!
in case anyone hadn’t already guessed, this month is just going to be one song a week, brought back from my graveyard of old, partially-finished songs. this week, though, i was lucky enough to find a request for a song that i’d planned to release; so this one’s for you!
hopefully, i’ll be able to return to packs starting next month; until then, just one more song next week.enjoy.i don’t have much to say here. sorry for the late, small, duplicate, and overall inadequate release. my motivation to actually work on songs i want to author has been low lately. hopefully i’ll have something done next week.
harmonies on this aren’t finished, because i was absolutely stumped. two out of three parts have been authored on the choruses, and all three parts on the outro, but only one for the verses. also, since someone put their own version of this in the database literally yesterday, this links directly to the download.
full disclosure: this is what me totally winging it looks like. one song? an unknown song by a relatively unknown band, to boot? pulled out of my back catalog of FoFiX-era songs and given the RB3 treatment???
yep! this is one of those magical songs that’s fun on everything – you can’t go wrong here, trust me. genre-wise it’s an anomaly; one part Kid Rock, one part Knife Party; but it’s an absolute blast that i think most people could enjoy.
welp, until next week! hopefully i’ll have a pack ready for you all by then.
i like to think of this as “what could have been”, at least in a way. two NIN songs that deserved to have HMX releases, one that’s been requested here on the forums several times, and some of these even have glorious multitracks. today’s triple helping of Nine Inch Nails (yum) features their first single, “Down In It”, and a taste of Trent Reznor’s drumming in “Piggy”. and finally, a song that’s had numerous custom releases – but none quite as fleshed out as this, i think – Only, off of With Teeth. Only features multitracks as well, which were an absolute blast to work with, and i was also able to get ahold of 5.1 audio for Piggy. i had to mix it down to a single track in the end, but if anyone with the skills wants to take a crack at converting the 5.1 into proper multis, just let me know! the more multis the merrier.
one last thing before i finish this overly long introduction – this pack was done in part for a friend of mine who can’t get enough Nine Inch Nails in her RB3, and sent me the 5.1 audio for Piggy. shout out to you! you know who you are.
update: as a belated addition to today’s release, i’ve added columbo777’s pro G/B charts for Saved by Zero and Mexican Radio. thanks!
ah, new wave. it’s really more old wave by this point, but that doesn’t make the music any less good. synthesizers age pretty well. this week i have a pack of three songs in the genre; one well-known and two not-quite-so-well-known. the former, Sunglasses at Night, has ridiculous lyrics but is catchy as all hell and has a sweet guitar solo to boot. i was honestly surprised it didn’t show up in RB3. as for the latter – Wall of Voodoo were never hugely popular, but they scored a minor hit with Mexican Radio; a song with a unique atmosphere and a rhythm played on custom-made percussion.finally, Saved by Zero wasn’t the Fixx’ biggest hit by any means, but it fared well enough that someone else here (the lovely and talented MFX) posted it as C3’s first Fixx custom just two days before i was about to. since i hadn’t charted vocals yet, we ended up collaborating on this, though you can still get MFX’ abridged karaoke-style version if you prefer. this version features a bunch of slick riffs on the guitar and bass, plus a neat funk-esque solo. (side note: for anyone wanting One Thing Leads To Another: stay tuned. a Fixx pack is definitely on my want-to-do list.)
next week i have another 3-pack – this time it’s a single band, and some of the songs have multitracks…for now though, have fun with these!
this is honestly the strangest, most uncoordinated week of releases i’ve done to date. i swear it’s like my subconscious wants me to release a custom in every possible RBN genre.more singles this week! Twenty One Pilots seem to be popular with the drum crowd around here, but i haven’t seen many full-band customs of their stuff, so here we are; my favourite track from Vessel. next, Tally Hall’s first “hit” – Banana Man, a song that gained a small bit of fame back in 2004 for its…interesting music video. a piece of internet history right there, folks. finally, i’ve upgraded TheOreo’s custom of Boney M’s “Rasputin” with keys, pro keys, and harmonies, as well as vox & drum tweaks and an improved beatmap.
next week’s release will hopefully be a bit more cohesive – it’s a genre-centric 3-pack – but for now, these
bananascustoms for you.
this week features three singles from recent years; two of which are by artists making their RB debut. first, we have the first custom i ever started work on; “Dangerous” by Big Data (tragically left mostly-finished for months). on top of that, i found some very nice (though not perfect) stems for Bleachers’ “I Wanna Get Better”. they encompass nearly everything, though if you notice any weirdness with the drums, bass, and keys audio, it’s because i had to do some (admittedly very poor) frequency filtering to get everything in the right tracks. finally, i have an upgrade of HellAshes’ “Shut Up and Dance” chart, featuring keys, pro keys, harmonies, overdrive, and some tweaks to G/B/D/V. all three are a ton of fun for vocalists, and are great full-band experiences as well.EDIT 2015.11.16: R.I.P. Shut Up and Dance. you were fun on keys while they lasted.
originally, i was planning on this week’s release to be a 3-pack of songs for Halloween, tied together by a “horror” theme. unfortunately, i procrastinated on last week’s release, so i ended up only having time for one song this week. but what a song! i’ve wanted to put Pinn Panelle in RB3 for years; they’re perfect for it – all the instruments are there, the parts range from mildly to very challenging, plus RB3 simply doesn’t have enough dubstep.if that last put you off, i can’t blame you; it’s not for everyone. but Pinn Panelle put a fresh spin on the genre (largely by playing it entirely on physical instruments), and i hope people will enjoy listening and playing along. i threw together a semi-custom venue for this song, and i have no way to playtest it, so please give me feedback if anything seems off (or is just plain broken)!
really, it’s about time Rock Band got some Sugar Ray. i was surprised they didn’t get at least one single as official DLC, and they were on C3’s Bounty Board but as far as i know were never picked up. so here they are! a three-pack featuring two hit singles, Every Morning and When It’s Over, plus a heavier track (Glory) for players who want something a bit more challenging (bonus points that it was on the American Pie soundtrack…if you liked that movie, i guess).also, i’d like to apologize for the keys/pro keys/harmonies on When It’s Over. i know the keys charts are shoddy at best; unfortunately it was the best i could do with the resources i could find (and my ears). there’s a bit of uncharted vocals too; i’d have included them if i could figure out what exactly was being sung. hopefully the song is fun and accurate to play anyway! i was busting my ass to meet my personal deadline, and tried not to rush anything.
got an eclectic bunch of songs today, seeing as i’ll be putting out a band pack next week. there’s something for everyone in here genre-wise, and there’s at least one really fun part for each instrument between all of these songs. in particular, Figure It Out has a fantastic bassline, and Where Did You Go should be a nice challenge for drummers.EDIT 2016.2.16: R.I.P. Figure It Out. hope the RB4 folks enjoy playing bass charted to guitar for the second time in 5 months.
five songs by five different virtual bands! i’ve always thought virtual bands were a really neat idea and i’ve been itching to put together something like this for a while. this pack has 19-2000, a Gorillaz track that’s fantastic for parties (play harmonies); Prozzak’s other hit single Strange Disease, plus two big synthpop songs from newer bands Savlonic and Studio Killers; both fantastic on keys. and then there’s Sloshy…..you know, that band from Homestar Runner. no idea how that ended up here…hope you all enjoy! more songs are on their way. i’m open to constructive criticism, and if you notice something’s off about one of my songs, let me know and i’ll fix it asap!
October 10, 2015 at 10:59 am #457276Hey, would you mind posting or PMing me RPP+audio of the most accomplished song you’ve done from the bunch? ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
October 10, 2015 at 12:53 pm #457279Every link sends me to a page with muddled up mess I would REALLY like the files to that savlonic song, so I can do a venue for it. I would also like to do that whole RED Album. If I get around to it, would you like to help? ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

hm, it works fine for me, but i was wondering if this would happen. did you try right-click, save as? if that doesn’t do it i can reupload somewhere else.
and sure, i’d be willing to help with the album, if i have time outside of the other customs i have planned. i’ll send you the RPP and audio for The Driver via PM; i think i know what you have in mind for the venue and i’m looking forward to it.

October 10, 2015 at 1:07 pm #457283Oh and I’ve tried clicking on it, opening in new tab. It’s all the same. Most likely something on my end, but would you be able to upload the Gorrilaz track on something else? I would love that one ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />

October 12, 2015 at 7:06 am #457412Wouldn’t the two songs from GTA VC count as virtual bands? (Love Fist). Or maybe I am thinking wrong.
