Anyone who has heard this song knows how crazy the keyboard solo is, and Andromeda finally answered their fans requests and had him play the solo!

August 27, 2015 at 12:36 am #453668Cool share. Veil of Illumination is one of the best songs in the game IMO. I just wish RBN was allowed to release the full version of the song not split into two parts.

If you pre-order one of their DVDS that comes out soon you get access to a video of him breaking down how he plays the solo too, I pledged and it was very interesting to watch

August 28, 2015 at 2:43 pm #453813I noticed something he’s doing that makes the solo “easier” to play in real life than in RB3. His synthesizer is set to monophonic, so it can play only one note at a time. On a monophonic synth you can take advantage of the keyboard equivalent of hammer-ons and pull-offs, holding one key down and then plucking other keys to make the notes jump back and forth. The RB3 keyboard controller doesn’t have a monophonic mode, so every note has to be played with a new key press.
Depending on how a monophonic synth sends MIDI data, there might be an “easier” way to play the solo in-game using a MIDI Pro Adapter. Maybe for RB4 Harmonix can offer some kind of monophonic option, either in-game or on an updated keyboard controller… oh, right. Sigh.
August 28, 2015 at 3:00 pm #453817Not sure I understand what you’re saying, but sure sounds like something I can make happen in Keytar Rokker…
August 28, 2015 at 3:07 pm #453820On a polyphonic synthesizer, if you hold down A, an A note plays. If you press C while still holding down A, the A note keeps playing and a C note plays at the same time. If you release C but still hold down A, the C note stops and the A note keeps playing. This mimics how acoustic pianos work.
On a monophonic synth, if you press C while holding down A, the A note stops when the C note starts. But if you keep holding down A and then release C, the C note stops and a new A note plays. This is not entirely unlike how HOPO’s work on an electric guitar.

Yep, when I saw him play the “zig zag” part of the solo at around 2:07 in the video, I saw he was holding down the B flat, which makes that part so easy on a real keyboard I could easily do that myself.
That also mean the keyboard solo in “Another Step” is a million times easier on an actual keyboard than the rock band one, it’s probably, literally, impossible
