Considering Beatles Rock Band songs are okay to post, would Lego Rock Band songs be okay now?

If I recall correctly, Harmonix has discontinued their service of allowing LRB songs to be ported over to other games. LRB songs are now stuck on the disc without any way of being ported over, and I doubt they’ll be released as DLC any time soon/ever. Beatles Rock Band had a similar issue, which is why I imagine those songs could be converted over.

With this is mind, are Lego Rock Band songs allowed now? Just curious.

      Nope.

      Nope.

May I ask why? I’m just genuinely curious, since Beatles was allowed.

        TBRB is a grey area.

        1) It’s a legacy project that was grandfathered in, it’s not “C3 official”, no matter how awesome it is

        2) It took a considerable amount of time to convert those songs, it’s absolutely not like taking a CON file and posting it here

        3) TBRB never was available to buy as a Rock Band import, LRB was

I understand the concept of copyrighted content seems weird in this situation but taking a file that can be bought as is and linking it is bad; opening up a CON, extracting MIDI, working on the audio, etc. makes it at least partially a custom work. Plus, the last thing we want is for people to get the message that if they procrastinate a purchase long enough it can be downloaded for free here.

          1. Beatles is a special case situation because I was already heavily involved in that project before C3 became a thing, and as a C3 founder and the host of all the C3 files, I get special privileges. It was my decision to have that project here, but notice that it is not part of C3’s database.

          2. Beatles was its own game, and was never licensed or intended to be used outside TBRB, so in making them available for RB3 no harm came to HMX. They have never been nor will in the future be available for another RB game short of another Beatles specific title, and if that day ever happens, you will most likely see those links go down.

          3. Beatles game files are different from other Rock Band files, so they’re not “shared”, they’re being converted like the Guitar Hero game files to RB3 format.

          4. Allowing Lego or other games to be shared on here is the same as allowing DLC that recently expired or is set to expire = by knowing that they would soon be shared for free, people have an incentive to just let them be removed from the store and get them for free rather than spend money to get them right before you couldn’t (i.e. HMX loses money).

          5. Expired games (and to a lesser extent, DLC) is likely to be re-licensed for RB4’s launch or soon thereafter.

Then again, that’s my interpretation of why it’s not allowed now. I stopped making decisions for C3 a while back, so they may change their mind. I don’t think it will happen anytime soon, but hey, who knows.

Could you not, if you have the LRB disc, just make a custom by copying the LRB songs.

I mean recording the game and then creating a custom. You could do this for any song could you not, provided you have the disc.

              Yes, you can:

              1) install the game to your xbox hard drive

              2) copy the game files to your computer

              3) convert the game files to an ISO

              4) extract the ISO contents

              5) decrypt and extract the game’s ARK files

              6) find the song files in there

              7) use Pack Creator to put the files into a pack that the game will see as customs

But at least steps 3-5 are so difficult for most people that it prevents this from being a “thing” – and there won’t be discussion on these forums on HOW it’s done. But yes, it can be done.
