I discovered this amazing community only a couple of months ago and since then I have added around 500 custom songs to my rockband collection and after downloading all the customs i’ve wanted, I decided to see if I could author my own.
I downloaded reaper and got to work on a song called Mushanga by Toto. I spent hours tempo mapping and correcting my chart and have charted all difficulties (including pro) for the drums. Unfortunately I don’t know where to go from here. I did everything on my mac and in order to get it turned into a .con file i believe I need a program called magma. Unfortunately I don’t think I can get it. I know, I know…. im dumb for having a mac but I want to give back to the community and after an entire day of tutorials and authoring yesterday I’ve hit a brick wall.
Is it at all possible to send my actual reaper project to somebody with my charted drums and song in it tempo mapped? And will it even open or work? That way someone who has magma could turn it into a .con file and it could go up for download in this community. I know that may sound like I’m asking someone to do all the hard work for me while I sit back and relax but I’m happy having none of the credit for these releases. I just want to author drums and play them in-game.
I doubt it would be that easy but I could potentially contribute to other charts and send my own custom drum parts to other authors etc.
Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum. As you can probably tell, I’m a complete novice with all this.
Thanks.
July 18, 2015 at 11:50 am #450618Hi and welcome. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”> Why don’t use a Virtualbox and install Windows or just dual boot with Windows and Mac OS?
July 19, 2015 at 12:35 am #450683Hi Farottone. I will definitely look into dual booting with windows using bootcamp or parallels, but in the meantime I’m going to try and use my dads laptop haha. I’m hoping I can get to grips with magma and windows before I eventually go about installing windows on my computer. I’ll let you know how I’m getting on but from what I know I can imagine it’s a lengthy process with a fair bit of trial and error when working with magma.
I’m currently at a point where I would like to export/render what I have charted in reaper. It’s not entirely finished (little things like overdrive and all instruments aren’t properly polished) but I would like to test how everything works. Mainly magma. I want to basically do a trial run of finishing a custom so that I can learn firsthand what I’m doing wrong etc. I’ve been using the guide to new authors that I believe you wrote most of and it says I need to turn off plugins and render using the settings shown in the picture but for the life of me I can’t seem to find the settings I should use and what exactly I should be turning off (plugins?) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
July 21, 2015 at 10:30 am #450886I have summarised this because it took me some time to work out the order of things to get a compiled RB3Con file … hope it goes some way to helping you too…..
OK, first off make sure you are using the correct version of Reaper. version : 4.22
When you believe you have done sufficient to test your efforts, you need to RENDER both the audio file and also a ‘muted’ copy of the audio file….
So, click on the track selection panel to the left and select all (Ctrl+A) – then click one of the tracks to apply a Mute to all of them. This should mute all of the tracks.
With everything muted – File / Render (call it something like filename_mute)
Then, unmute only the “Count-In” track and “Song Audio”, then Render (call it something like filename_main)
Now unmute all and deselect everything. Now, select (again using the Ctrl key and mouse left click) each individual track you want to export to the MIDI file.
As a bare minimum this will be the : EVENTS,BEAT and VENUE tracks … plus the instruments you have authored.
(TIP : If you are starting off so that you arent overwhemed with too many MAGMA errors… I would sensibly suggest add one instrument track, to the MIDI file for each compilation… )
Then File / Export … this creates the MIDI file.
Open MAGMA, add all the necessary song name details etc. and in the Audio tab select ONLY the instruments you have exported in the MIDI file. For each of these instrument tracks, you need to reference the MUTE version of the rendered WAV file.
The BACKING track is the only one that should point to the rendered WAV file called ‘_main’ from earlier ie. the non-muted file.
(NOTE : Bear in mind that if you try to compile a single instrument MAGMA will likely complain along the lines that there are too few tracks. To get around this, simply add a file path reference to the muted copy of the audio file to the Crowd Track as well – BUT do remember to remove this as and when you add your other authored instrument tracks)
On the third tab – add the file reference to the exported instrument MIDI file where shown (at the top) and Press Test.
If you have MAGMA errors – well, that is a whole new ballgame and your best bet is to search on the forum for similar threads in order to resolve.
If you have none, proceed with the formal Compile option and if all is well, you will have generated your RB3Con file.
Copy to your thumb drive etc. and away you go …. good luck!
Let us know how you get on.
