I have seen this in a couple of my authored efforts where I have the 4/4 time signature and the tempo map is fine and the start of each bar aligns perfectly on the grid. Then at some point, an additional 2 beats get dropped in and from there on the sequence is out by two beats such that the start of each measure is no longer aligned ‘correctly’.
I guess I am able to adjust the time signature at the point where the change occurs – so effectively it is accomodated and either side of this additional 2 beats all else stays the same… perhaps…?
Trust this makes sense.
Is the time signature changing part-way through a measure (ie. on beat 3 of 4 instead of 4 of 4)?
The best way I could desrbie is like an additional 2 beat ‘pause’ before the chorus kicks in….
I usually add the extra 2 beats to the previous measure and make that measure 6/4 time. I’ve also seen a new measure added as 2/4 time. I’m not sure how much it matters either way.

Not a bit, it doesn’t make a difference technically.
Great – thanks.
Some people do 2/4, some prefer 6/4 there. It’s a common thing in a lot of songs that I’ve charted. As long as you know it’s actually just that and not something that is changing to 3/4 or anything.
I use to do 6/4, but I tend to use 2/4 now as a lot of other authors I see use that.
