“The library is not there on PC,” Sussman said, referring to the songs released for previous Rock Band games. “The library is there on Xbox and PlayStation. So, for players who want it on PC, really you’re looking at a new audience that hasn’t played before, and I don’t know to what degree there is an audience for new players who have never played Rock Band before on the PC. That’s one piece of it.”

Sussman went on to say that another reason Rock Band 4 isn’t coming to PC has to do with piracy concerns, which could be a major issue for a game involving music rights.

“The other piece is all the security issues, to be perfectly frank,” Sussman said. “There’s something comforting about the closed network that comes along with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That’s important to our partners in the music industry. Not to say that’s an unsolvable problem.”

jacked this word for word from neogaf lol

I wonder how much this has to do with communities like us, and more specifically, xbox360iso.

If this is because customs that is sad, i love customs because it gives you the power to add my music to the game as I know there is no way I will ever get a song in RB or GH without one of my songs getting more then 2 million views or more views.

As they said no for Sorry Jack that has over 1 million views.

And I think Harmonix has done songs that have less video views then that.

Back to the customs part I really love customs to add my songs to the game.

As C3 we haven’t touched a single piece of content Harmonix ever released. In fact, far less visibility is given to piracy content since C3 exists, *because* of C3 and of how we manage the community.

Their big problem is likely the the idea of how open things are in the PC world. I think things like C3 aren’t the direct* reason for security (especially C3 with how actively and forcefully HMX stuff is protected and untouched)… but it’s the idea and fact things CAN exist like this that it’s the problem. Look at the steps and everything that comes from the process here.

It’s leagues harder to mod stuff through a console than through PC. GTAV came out on PC and within days people ported over console mods that took months to do previously.

The “mod” communities like us for RB games is in a huge minority I feel. Less than 1% of people who have played or own RB have custom songs. Way less. If a PC version came out something like this would pop up much, much easier, and be very hard to maintain and control. I think that is their concern.

This is the original article that GameSpot is covering:

        http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015- … plains-why

I’ve read the comments on both sites and it’s clear that most people commenting have no idea of how things work in the industry and are just spouting the same arguments they have for all other games without realizing that Rock Band is different.

Piracy of the software, piracy of the songs, and the fact that on a PC it would be easy to make ANY controller work with the game (and therefore reduced sales of hardware) are important factors, but THE factor is what it has always been: the multitrack audio.

As someone who has spent quite a bit of time researching it, I can tell ya that HMX is very much concerned about it, to the point that every new game has increased the complexity of the audio encryption, even though the last audio encryption that was cracked was RB2’s in late 2008. Every game since has upped encryption in the presumption that over time the other encryptions would be defeated. Here we are in 2015 and still, the encryption used on Lego and Green Day hasn’t been defeated, nor the encryption on TBRB, or RBN, or RB3.

If RB4 was released on PC, within days (if not hours) of release, the encryption would be defeated and all past and future DLC would be available for the taking – and the studios would have a big issue with that. But that’s a bit of a mouthful for HMX to say…so “piracy is a big concern.”

See: GTA V on PC – the encryption was cracked by the OpenIV team within hours of release.

I think as far as this place goes, we understand that. We understand that Multitrack audio and stems are extremely important to the property holders. People visiting the mainstream news outlets can’t seem to wrap their heads around that though.

Harmonix’s PR department made a comment here.

Short version is, it’s not so much piracy itself they’re worried about, it’s the perception of piracy and the work they would have to do to address that perception, work that’s done for them on the console platforms.

I saw that post, tried to comment, realized my NeoGAF account was either never activated or banned even though I’ve never used it, because I can’t post, can’t PM a mod, anything. Oh well.

It’s funny/sad to see how ill informed some people are. Two or three posts below Nick’s post, someone commented that “the scene” of getting the multitracks out of Rock Band / Guitar Hero games wasn’t a thing anymore and that they definitely didn’t have audio from the newer games on Xbox :what:

This makes sense. It’s not like it’s hard to pirate on consoles if you really want to, but it seems lesser known.
