Is there a tutorial somewhere that can show me how to chart unpitched vocals? It’s really difficult for me to do pitches, and also I don’t care much for them. But I want there to be vocals in my songs, for a better feel when playing the song in game.
Also, I can’t figure out how to chart keys whatsoever, and I’d like to know how so I can do some really intense keyboard songs I know. Is there a tutorial for this as well, somewhere? Thank you.
For vocals, the only difference between pitched and unpitched is that you add a special character to the lyric:
this# for normal unpitched syllables
that^ for more lenient scoring unpitched syllables (stuff the mic has trouble picking up)
Where you chart the pitch doesn’t matter, so you can always make a rough outline of the pitches to keep track of it as you go. The CAT tools have a button for “make all notes unpitched” which will add this character to the lyrics for you if you import.
For tutorials I’m a fan of Nyxyxylyth’s video, RBN docs, and just playing back other known-good charts for an idea of how the notes line up with the singing. (If you unmute the vocal track in the C3 REAPER Template, it will play the tones alongside the song.)
5-lane keys is basically charted like guitar/bass but with broken chord support, and you can largely map it by ear; Magma can set it up so that you don’t need Pro. I’m not sure I’ve seen a nice tutorial for pro keys Pro Keys requires that you transcribe the real part, so you need to be rather comfortable with converting MIDIs or transcribing sheet music.
Once again, thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate it.
Is it possible to do keys without having to do pro keys? It’s really confusing on how to do it.
Yes you don’t have to do pro keys. Just chart in PART KEYS just like guitar or bass. Ignore everything else that has keys in the name.

I’ve done that, but it still won’t work. I’ll try it again though, just in case I’m missing something.
You’ll need to generate dummy pro keys to compile successfully. Normally I will run through the tester without the PART KEYS in the midi, then add it in and use Magma’s Export feature which will autogenerate animations, venue and “fake” pro keys if you have that checked. This is usually a better option than just throwing single notes in each Pro Keys track as it will at least give them the 5-lane keys part.
