Update:
I moved these over to the WIP forum subsection since they still require some work and should not be considered “finished”.
The links to the files will be over here instead.
Hello one and all!
Been lurking around here for quite some time reading over documentation and watching videos while slowly learning the ins and outs of authoring custom RB3 songs. Now its time to release a couple to get some feedback and learn what I’m missing and hopefully pick up a trick or two along the way.
I’ve added Reaper files for my customs so anyone can see what I’ve done and can adjust and/or modify to improve on it. All I ask is that you let me know what was done so I can learn from it.
So without further ado;
This was a project that I completed in just little over a day after it was requested by my girlfriend who enjoyed playing Axel F that was released by Sideshow.
The hardest part was picking out what to use for the bass line and the hi hat/cymbal ride. When listening to the song, especially during the opening, there is a faint background rhythm which I considered using but since you cannot hear it during the main part, I thought it would be better to use the more familiar riff instead.
I decided to go with the hi hat ride throughout the song since you do hear it. It was rather fun trying to determine the hi hat from the shaker that is used during the opening.
This is also the first guitar solo I’ve attempted. I downloaded a MIDI version of the song and pulled the solo out of it cleaned it up.
I also looked at
guitar cover and wondered if it should be added even though you cannot actually hear guitar until the solo. Just to give the guitarist something more to do.
This is my first custom. Fairly easy song to learn on. Simple drum beat for easy tempo mapping. Learned quite a bit doing the harmonies on this one. Have to give lots of thanks to my girlfriend for helping me tweak them.
I suspect there is more guitar parts in this song but I’m not hearing it over all the keyboards. This cover video allows you to hear what could be played during the chorus. Any thoughts to adding it?
I added vocal/harmonies to this one and used the CAT Reductions on it. I would give credit to the original author but they are unknown.
This song needed vocals/harmonies just like all the song from Nightwish. I was lucky to find a MIDI of the song and used it as a base to get within range and then during playtesting was able to find the biggest errors.
During the modification, the pro keys didn’t want to render so I just disabled them. If someone wants to find what the problem is and re-add them, then by all means.
No tempo map on this one either so it is what it is.
I have a lot of songs on the books to create and share unless someone else beats me to them. As I said I’m still learning and expect lots of mistakes. I’m more visual in my learning than I am from reading so any visual aides from the community to help me improve, I would appreciate.

January 19, 2015 at 12:32 am #436551Hi and great to see a new author testing the waters. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
I’m gonna give you something to latch on and something to work on. Vocals for Kyrie are good. Pitches for lead vocals are mainly fine, though you have the occasional C# which is outside the key of this song. Pitches for the harmonies are not spot on: again, you got some G# and F# which are outside the key of the song. Timing is not bad but it’s not as accurate as you need it to be: you need to start notes later, from a bit later to much later. Remember not to chart hard consonant sounds and anything that doesn’t make a pitched sound recognised by the mic (unless they’re talkies of course). You also got some slides missing, like in the initial long sustained G that actually start from F and climb up from there. I’ve seen authors being their C3 career with vocals more or less like this, so it’s a good starting point, but you need to check those issues.
Drums are the thing to work on: do one pass for cymbals and one pass for snare/toms/kicks. In Kyrie you’re missing plenty of hi hats (the beat is not the one you chose, it goes on in triple hits), in Miami Vice hi hat are somewhat misplaced. In particular you need to focus on the concept of tuplets, an odd number of notes in a given beat. You tend to author 4 notes where you have 4 notes, but instead of having the 4 notes on a triplet grid you do the first 3 notes in a 1/32nd grid and the last note on a 1/16th grid on beat. You are also missing some snares in the fills.
I haven’t checked other things but you can start working on those if you want. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”> Have fun working on these songs!

April 9, 2015 at 7:00 pm #442366hey someone told that you have bye bye beautiful by nightwish, i want to do the pro and standard keys!!!!
April 10, 2015 at 4:55 pm #442452I moved the links to here since they are more of a work in progress than actually completed. Links to the Reaper files are located there as well.
I never really planned to release any of my customs since I lack all the tools to make them accurate, especially vocals, but decided “what the hell” and if someone wanted to tighten them up they could have at it.
I don’t know who authored Bye Bye Beautiful. I found it here and decided to add the vocals to it. I used a midi that I found on the net so it is what it is. The original without vocals already had pro keys, but for some reason after I extracted it and added the vocals, recompiling it continued to give me errors and since trying to play pro isn’t really a high priority for me, i just disabled them and moved on. The tracks are still there in the Reaper file.
April 10, 2015 at 4:59 pm #442453I will check it later
