Hello
can someone give me a list of original songs
that you got the stems for from the artist
and you got permission to release it as a c3 release
thanks
December 27, 2014 at 5:46 pm #435308Why?
And the answer will probably be “no” in any case.

I want to upload videos of songs, and I know it’s OK to download
as it is not illegal to download as c3 got permission to release it from the artist
December 27, 2014 at 5:57 pm #435310If you’re concerned about the legality of customs, then don’t waste your time with videos. You’d be limited to a handful of songs by C3 Authors or the few RBN artists who are now starting to come out through C3.
In any case, I’m fairly sure C3 doesn’t keep a list of what we have “permission” for and not. And if there was such a list, it would most likely not be shared with non-admins.

Thanks for your reply
December 27, 2014 at 6:16 pm #435312What kind of videos are you referring to? If you mean videos of the Rock Band charts then I am completely okay with for any of my songs, so is Gigakoops, as long as you don’t try to claim the chart/song credit for yourself obviously

It is a public domain classical work; anyone can make a cover of it.

As much as I hate saying this because it seems so stupid but performances of public domain works can still be copyrighted. The music sheet can’t be copyrighted but if someone plays it they can copyright their performance.
This is just a FYI for anyone who gets a copyright strike on a video with a public domain work.
I personally believe that if your perform a public domain work that the performance should by default be public domain but people who claim copyrights don’t care what I believe.

That’s a given but the sentence still stands: you can make a cover of a public domain work. There are 2 copyrights: for the creation and for the performance. You can’t reproduce a copyrighted work without permission and you can’t share a copyrighted performance, but you can reproduce a public domain work as you wish.
January 2, 2015 at 3:49 pm #435557You are correct. I was referring to covers that only cover one instrument and need a backing track.
Any backing track, regardless if the underlying work is in the public domain, is subject to copyright claim.
Meaning that even though you are “covering” the song it can be claimed if you use a backing track.
January 2, 2015 at 4:32 pm #435562He specifically asked if anyone can “make a cover or use it.” While you guys have covered the second part of that (in that if he uses a cover of a public domain work he should have permission (which was granted I think when Nightmare said that he could use any of her songs)), he did ask about covers of it as well, which I think was the basis of my reply.
Yes of course a cover of a PD song can be copyrighted, and you should definitely check before posting audio of it. However, seeing how NL has already given him permission for all tracks, I think it’s safe to say that he has permission if it’s in the context of a Rock Band video.
