So, I started trying to chart a couple of songs by some friends of mine, mostly as a way to get me to think more creatively about charting and also to just chart really weird shit. I figured it would be interesting!!
But, I’ve stumbled into something that I kinda want a second opinion on. See, this song that I’m charting is basically just three instruments: Trombone, drums, and vocals (plus some other weird effects and ambience). The trombone part is mostly just chords, with a brief 4-and-a-half measure long solo. (Here’s the song in question, if anyone wants to hear it. It’s really damn good imo)
Basically, my question is this: Which configuration would make most sense and be most interesting to play:
1) All trombone on keys
2) Trombone chords on keys, trombone solo on guitar
3) Trombone chords split across bass and guitar (they’re four-note chords, so I’d imagine the top two notes would be on guitar and the bottom two notes would be on bass), trombone solo on guitar
…or something else entirely?
Also, I’m probably going to keep bringing up more questions along the lines of this in this thread as I keep working on trying to make really weird and esoteric shit playable in Rock Band (which itself is a pretty esoteric thing to be doing), so be prepared for that. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_emot-3.gif” />
I’d say keys only, because it’d be odd to split a trombone section between instruments. But do keep it to one trombone at a time; during the solo for example only have the trombone that’s doing the solo.
Yeah, do just keys only. You could always makes the “synth” argument for the sound… and it’s better for any off instruments to be on the keys (since you can chart by actual note/sound than just 5 frets).
