    FAQ

Why are doing this? For fun. I enjoy it and I thought you might too.

Why are there more solo videos than harmonies? I WANT TO SEE HARMONIES NOW!!! Harmony videos are a lot more difficult to produce. First they require extra parts, so for a 3-part harmony video I actually need to do 3 solo videos THEN I need to sync all the audio and video up for all 3 parts which takes a lot more time and effort. Second I don’t have much experience AT ALL with harmonies which means it requires a lot more takes to get an FC. Thirdly, some songs are not the same on solo vs lead harmony (for instance Bohemian Rhapsody). A solo video may not even sound the same at all as the lead in the same harmony video.

On the plus side I do harmony videos as requested by YOU! So when they do get released, it’s something YOU want to see!

Is there info on individual songs? Yes, in the Youtube description. I’m no longer doing this. To much effort trying to remember things. You can request info on a song if you would like in this thread or on the youtube page and I would be happy to respond to you!

Why don’t you sound exactly like the original singer? Lots of ways to explain this but l’ll take the easy route. I’m not the original singer. I can make a few songs sound perfect and most songs sound decent. I will never be able to make all songs (which are all from various different singers) sound perfect or decent.

Examples: Taylor Swift songs will sound weird because I am a guy singing like a girl. War songs (Low Rider) will sound weird because I cannot hit those bass notes. Lastly any song that is sung by a singer not matching my voice type (baritone) will sound weird.

Why do you sound bad? Most of the songs I am singing for the first time ever and only doing 5 or less takes. The original singer for the song has done a 1000 takes and completely memorized the song’s pitches and lyrics. That’s why my voice might be off key on a few parts and sound shaky because I don’t have the lyrics/pitches fully memorized. Obviously best case scenario would be to have everything memorized but if I did that then I would only be able to focus on a few songs and nothing would get done.

-I’ve also had 0 (zero, nada, zip, nothing) vocal lessons or training.

-I also only started singing harmony parts a short time ago.

-I’ve sang lead exclusively for about 3 years now.

This isn’t an excuse but just a fact. I love to improve. If you think I fucked up somewhere, let me know, but chances are I already know I fucked up.

Your vocals sound different but your still getting 100%? I’m singing the song how it was charted in the game. The charts do not always sound the same as the original recording. People in their free time are making these charts from ear. The game also allows me to miss a certain percentage of a phrase. I play on expert so it doesn’t allow me to miss much but it also helps me get a video done quicker because a lot of these songs I am hearing for the first time.

How do you determine a good take? I mostly just look for a 100% FC on expert. This isn’t easy by any means – even more so with the fact that I don’t switch octaves – so it usually sounds decent.

Why are you playing this fake music game and not playing a real instrument? Actually I am playing a real instrument. Vocals is the only instrument in the game Rock Band that requires 100% real life talent. The only thing the mic does in this game is listen to my voice and display it on-screen. It’s the same exact scenario when a violinist is reading sheet music during an orchestra performance. Rock Band is my sheet music. In-fact sometimes singing on this game is more difficult than real life because the sheet music (chart) is wrong.

I still don’t believe you! Don’t listen to me. Listen to the game. Go into any song in Rock Band 3 and go into practice mode on vocals. Turn the beep sounds (vocal guide) on and then try and sing what you hear (this means no octave shifting). You’ll find getting 100% is really difficult on expert. The game will severely punish you if you are a semitone flat or sharp.

Don’t have the game? Listen to anyone of my videos and replicate my voice (pitch) 100%. It’s not easy.

Do you play other instruments Yes, I can play almost any song on expert on guitar, bass, and drums. Very rarely you will get a glimpse of this on a One Man Band video. Keys is the only instrument I can’t play well on expert. I can play real guitar and real drums to some extent. I can’t play real / pro keys or bass.

I’m one guy and I like to sing. I’m not the best but I enjoy singing in the original octaves (except rare cases – Roger Taylor and Bohemian Rhapsody can go to hell!!!! :what: ). I’ve been getting into harmonies recently and like editing together my voices to produce “solo harmonies.” Every week I will be posting a video here of my choosing with help from you! I figure it’s a good way to showcase some released C3 custom song’s harmonies at the same time.

If you would like to hear all parts of a harmony sung by one person for a particular song then PLEASE POST A REQUEST. I need them to generate videos that people want to see. Otherwise I will have to choose a song myself and it might not be a song you want to hear.

-Songs requests can be anything from the Request Lists.

-Please keep requests to 1-2 songs per person per week. In other words, don’t request every single RB3 song in one post.

-I have yet to get RB Harmonies project working on my console. So for now let’s exclude those because I can’t play them. So sorry Espher.

    Request Lists

-There are tabs at the bottom and you can use Ctrl + F to find something.

I’m merging my solo work (as well as combining C3 and Official work) into this thread as well to keep things organized and together. I plan on uploading one harmony video a week and one solo video a day. It almost all cases these videos will be a full combo 100% gold star run with no octave switching.

-Harmony videos will be done by request as long as there is a request list. Solo work will be done by my choosing only.

-My end goal is to have all 1800 songs in my library FC’ed on solo mode and have so many harmony videos that you won’t be able to finish watching them before you die of old age.

    Daft Punk – Get Lucky <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />

Also for the videos, I would recommend turning down the master volume a bit, it seemed a bit loud and perhaps clipped a bit. Basically make sure nothing reaches the red area on the volume slider in whatever program you use

    #434123

I don’t really have much problem singing Pharrell’s part but the charted robot vocals are really tough.

Will do when I get free time in the day.

For the clipping you are right. I use an external amp with headphones so it’s hard for me to gauge how loud the edit should be. I’m recording on my smartphone so it’s not the best audio in the first place. It does the job well enough for me though.

    #434125

Try reducing the recording volume by about 2-3 decibels of what is used in the Fun Fun Fun video and see how that sound, it should do the trick I think. You can also open the audio in Reaper after recording and add a Limiter which removes some of the clipping as well

    #434127

I’m using Sony Vegas. It tells me if the audio clips or not for each track and the master. I just wasn’t paying attention to it. I think for the future I will pay attention to the master and make sure the highest audio only goes to like -1db in the master so nothing clips.

Of course I only have a Samsung S3 and it doesn’t record the best audio.

Uploading fixed videos. They do sound a bit better without the audio clipping.

I working on Get Lucky and Don’t Bring Me Down.

For “Get Lucky” I need to keep working on the robot breakdown. Otherwise it’s all good.

For “Don’t Bring Me Down” I need to work more on the harmonies. I have the lead down.

I was looking at the list of songs I’ve released, only to realize that most of them probably wouldn’t fit in a video like these, on account of either not having much harmonies or having styles of vocals that just wouldn’t fit (death growls, etc.). Though some of the more poppier ones I guess could work.

Instead I will request “Amish Paradise” by Weird Al Yankovic. I know it’s a silly parody song, but I’m curious how the choir would be done.

      #434248

I love that song! Never thought it had harmonies.

It’ll be a brand new experience.

Get Lucky is done! It’s not my best but it’s decent.

edit: Tested out Amish Paradise last night and it should all be doable except for the very end bass harmony. My voice won’t go low enough. Should sound the same with an octave shift though.

      #434330

Wow Amish Paradise was incredibly easy.

I did all parts and added in another lead sung an octave below (not shown in the video).

Although my voice could not sing the bass harmony at the very end. Good lord it sounded like a bass guitar.

      Upload coming soon.

Don’t Bring Me Down is going to require a lot more effort than I originally planned.

      #434373

      Amish Paradise is uploaded now!

I think I was most impressed that I was able to hold a G2 at the end of the song for the bass harmony.

That is the lowest note I can hold without going into vocal fry (think gurgling sounds).

I think at my best my vocal range seems to be G2 to A5.

Try We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. That would probably be a fun one to do.

I think you should put him to work on the RBHP, espher. He can definitely recognize pitches enough to chart vocals.

Try We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. That would probably be a fun one to do.

Since it has karaoke I can mute Taylor Swift and then the song will be about guys never getting back togethor with their girlfriends.

        #434439

It would be cool if you could do either “That Thing You Do” by The Wonders or “I Was a Fool” by Tegan and Sara! Great job on these by the way, really cool!
