First of all, I know my posts are rather far removed from one and other and my returns tend to be rather sporadic in terms of actual postings and the length of them but I’ve gone from being simply a full time student to a full time volunteer and student with things to pay for. Yeah, real life does suck, C3 creators. You weren’t kidding, can’t imagine how regular contributors pump out content at such high quality weekly. At least I’m getting through lol!

Anyhow, I’m somewhat late in bringing this up, but has anyone else heard about Megadeth lately? Put simply: Dave and Junior are in kind of a pickle – Shawn Drover and Chris Broderick both left in November within days of each other. The reasons cited, as far as I’ve heard so far, were creative differences.

Unfortunate so far? Sure, but what made things even worse for Mustaine was the fact that just days after their departure, authorities found his mother in law, who was suffering from alzheimers, dead. She had reportedly wandered off from a campsite she had been staying at with her husband sometime in early October. Authorities confirmed that they had found her remains about a half mile away from where she had gone missing. From what I understand, Dave was actually very close to his mother in law, so it must have really been horrible. What a week that must have been. I can’t imagine how broken he must have felt just after two of his bandmates quitting, but then that? Jeez.

I know I and many other fans had the Mustaine family in their thoughts for some time following, and I still encourage them to stay strong and remember that Mrs Eastbrook (that was her name) will always be with them in spirit.

The following days were understandably silent on the Megadeth front, until Dave Ellefson finally broke the silence and confirmed that Megadeth would not split, and that the positions left by Broderick and Drover would be filled. David stated that he and Mustaine were simply considering their options.

I kind of refrained from talking about who would be in their place simply out of respect, but I feel that it has been long enough to start looking and talking about this situation from a fan perspective, and I’d love for any fellow droogies to join in on the conversation.

I’m sure many people will instantly say the logical choice would be to get the golden line up back, but would it be? Friedman doesn’t even seem to have real interest in coming back to America, never mind joining back with Megadeth. Menza on the other hand, I’m sure that he’d jump right back into the fold if the offer was made. The thing is, Dave tried to reunite with Nick in 2004, and Menza was supposedly not in good shape. Today however, we know from videos that he can play very well, and he is right in the pocket as opposed to how he supposedly was back then.

If Menza does come back, I’d welcome it. As for the guitar spot… well. Anyone’s guess really. With Menza its much less dreaming I think, because they have been in touch, despite Dave giving Nick the cold shoulder at some convention this year. I’d say if Nick had been out of sight, he wouldn’t be given a thought, but I think he’s made an impression with Dave that if he’s ever wanted or needed, he’ll gladly come back. Whether Dave capitalizes on that or not…

The thing is, I don’t think Dave likes to repeat the past. He always seems to move on when a member leaves or is fired, and rarely looks back. He tends to focus on the present line up, and while I and so many other fans want Nick to return, I don’t have my hopes up for it.

What are your thoughts? Do you care? If not why are you still reading this? lol

First time hearing about this info. It would be great to get the golden lineup back from the late 80’s to 90’s. I was listening to Megadeth alot back in the 90’s up to the Youthanasia album. So I’m all for Nick Menza to come back. Too bad Gar Samuelson died but from what I understand he was a heavy alcohol and drug user. Get that classic 90’s lineup back before people start crocking!

I agree with you. I’d love to see Menza at least in there if they can’t work something out with Friedman. I’d be surprised if they got both of them though. Youthanasia was the drop off point for a lot of Megadeth fans, I personally like most of their albums though (the only one I don’t like much of is Risk, which I only liked the songs Wanderlust, and Prince of Darkness).

I don’t think any of the golden line up boys will be croaking of OD’s or anything, Mustaine, Friedman, Menza, and Junior are all clean and in pretty good health as far as I know. In fact, the only health issues Mustaine has had in recent years are the severe neck injury he got, and the beginning struggle with easy weight gain that happens when you get into your late forties (his new addiction a few years ago was M&Ms lol, he actually said that). That neck injury is pretty much why his vocal range went to shit I guess. He had to have surgery on his neck and it went wrong somehow from what I understand. Thankfully it wasn’t a fatal error that killed him, but it messed his voice up pretty bad <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />

Gar was a fantastic drummer, but a very bad drug and alcohol addict. I believe he died of liver failure, which is not at all uncommon with heavy drug/alcohol abusers.
