So I’m looking for opinion on the drum charting for Cheap Trick’s, The Flame.

The parts in question are from the beginning to when the main drums enter at 0:58 (so, 0:00 – 0:58)

There seems to be something* rhythmically going on there percussion wise, but I’m not completely sure it’s something that should be charted.

    1) Cymbal’ish

There is a soft back-beat being played during this part, but I’m not 100% sure what it is. To me, it sounds like either a hi-hat pedal or a percussion instrument like soft tambourine/maracas. Is this something that should be charted out on the yellow/blue, something that should be left to the hi-hat pedal animation, or left out as it is not a prevalent part at this time in the song?

    2) Tom’ish

There are some tom sounding notes being played as well throughout this. I’m not sure if they are toms exactly, and they are just distant enough that I feel the chart of them would distract from the experience of playing.

I personally think I should just animate the hi-hat pedal to the cymbal rhythm, and leave out the tom’ish parts, but I’m asking for charters opinions on what to do. I just feel trying to chart out that part on RB drums will feel awkward, and distract from the beauty of the intro. The notes are also just faint enough that I feel not everyone would understand what they are playing.

Any input would be appreciated, thank you.

I can’t listen right now, but the other Cheap Trick songs are pretty fiercely inventive – all over the kit. It’d be tragic to dumb it down.
