Editing Harmonix-Made Songs

First and foremost, I want to say that I have no intention of breaking forum policies. I have a genuine question and have no plan of sharing copyrighted songs charted by Harmonix.
My question is how do I edit a song that was officially released as DLC? The only thing I want to do is add double bass to songs that already exist (Trivium’s “In Waves”, Avenged Sevenfold’s “Nightmare”, etc.) and I’m sure there is some way for it to be done, because another user has released songs like Judas Priest’s “Painkiller” with double bass version, on top of several other official DLC songs. Is the only option to try to reconstruct the entire chart on Reaper from scratch, or is there a way to access the MIDI internally (or through some online database)?
If it makes any difference, I am running Rock Band on the Wii and loading DLC through an SD card.
Again, I do not mean to break any rules, and I will not share any edited versions of these songs if I am not allowed to. I just want some human-to-human help on this.
Thanks in advance for any responses
September 17, 2014 at 8:58 pm #429356You could always extract the midi out of the con file using con tools, then get your own wav file of the song in question. Then make the custom by adding the appropriate bass notes. The custom won’t be multitrack like the original, but it’s still an option. I did to Diachylon by Chaotrope and everything works fine. I haven’t posted it for obvious reasons, tho.
EDIT: I don’t know if you can extract the midi of wii files using con-tools.

See, the Wii doesn’t seem to have access to con files.
So xBox users have immidiate access to con files? All I need to do is befriend an xbox user who has the DLC I’m looking to edit?
September 18, 2014 at 2:19 am #429373What he might be suggesting, and here is what I would do, is simply take a copy of all the files of the song (and you probably can’t do this yourself, unfortunately), and then use the files in a new “custom” song. You’re just editing the DTA to say 2x Bass pedal (so you don’t get confused) and change the song id to something with letters in it. Then, when you load it into the game it should coexist and play like a normal DLC song. You won’t be able to play it with others online (if that’s still a thing)
September 18, 2014 at 2:06 pm #429389Your best bet, if you’re OK with only having access to the 2x bass version, is use the same method the RB:HP project uses to install upgrades; however, instead of having harmony upgrades, you’d be putting in a replacement drum chart. If you go this route, you won’t have to lose the multitrack – but for all intents and purposes, the game will not know the difference between the 2x and non-2x versions.
