      Hello everyone.

So I was excited to see the Duran Duran tracks released last Friday. However, I would like to be able to make a few changes, most notably “Save a Prayer”, where the sequencers are charted to the keyboard and the main synth charted to the guitar, I wanted to switch that around. Unfortunately, I cannot open the mogg files I need to work with. Not in Audacity, REAPER or Audition. I take it that these files are somehow encrypted?

Any assistance regarding these tracks is much appreciated.

Buy the song off of iTunes or something, extract the MIDI from the CON, sync audio up to MIDI in Reaper, edit charts and export MIDI, replace MIDI in CON, done

Fair enough, but I’m getting a version of “The Reflex” I’m not actually familiar with. I have two and neither one matches up. If you would at least show me which one that would be?

That decision was a toss up: I usually tend to assign pro keys the most melodic line, which in this case was the synth pan flute, however it felt more right having a synth heavy song cover more keys parts, plus the guitar solos would have left nothing to play to the pro keys in those spots and you would suddenly jump from the sequencer to the guitar. Anyway, I can understand wanting to have it a little different, but Save a Prayer is an unedited version. As explained in the blog post, for The Reflex I tacked the remix intro to the album version, you can do the same if you want to reconstruct the audio.

If I may be forgiven for digging up an old thread… I played “Save a Prayer” on pro keys for the first time last night. I have to ask, why are the sequencer echos also charted? That makes the expert chart a whole lot harder than it should be, in my opinion. I’m tempted to redo the chart as well, for that reason.

Because I’m not convinced they’re echoes. Let me rephrase that: even listening to the isolated synth, which you can find on YT, you can hear the echoes (which I haven’t charted) being different in terms of attack to the double notes I charted, which means that ideally I want to reflect that difference in game. However if in fact no double notes are played originally and it makes sense to remove them, if you want to fix it up it should be a very quick thing, since the pattern is constantly repeated thus making it easy to change it.

I’m listening to the intro of the original song, and the Youtube clip of isolated synth tracks (I assume you’re talking about this clip). I agree, the track isn’t echoing the way I originally thought it was, but I’m still convinced there is an echo. I’ll have to do some experimenting to get a better idea, but what I think I hear is an eighth-note sequence plus an echo with a three-sixteenth-notes delay. In both the original song and the isolated synth track you can hear the starting note again just before the second beat. Some quick work in Reaper should confirm or deny this, once I get the chance.

Okay, in this MP3, I’ve recorded the 8th-note sequence for the first two measures. I believe this is how the expert track should be played. This MP3 has the same 8th-note sequence with an echo addded, delayed three 16th notes. I’m not using the same synth patch as the original, obviously, but I believe the note sequence heard in the actual song is the same.
