I am making this topic to show everyone how to get everything to sound properly in Reaper.
Sometimes when authoring a song you are forced to wrap notes around. While they’re still technically correct in terms of pitch, they might be authored an octave higher or lower than what they are supposed to be causing the song to sound weird when playing the synthesizer in Reaper. This small tutorial should fix that.
Note, this is only for your personal convenience, this will not make charting any easier, just less frustrating.
Now, on to the tutorial:
First step is to open the effects on the PART REAL_KEYS_X track by clicking on the green FX button. If you’re using the C3 template you should see 2 effect chains already there, do not touch these:
Next, you’re going to want to add an effect by clicking Add at the bottom, use the “filter list” search box to type in MIDI_TOOL and choose the one labeled “MIDI_TOOL II”
In this new instance of MIDI_TOOL II click on the drop down for “Input Channel”, set it to 2. In the slider labeled “Transpose” click on the box next to it and type in 12 (there are 12 semitones in an octave, and you want to increase everything by an octave).
Then finally, make sure that this effect chain is located above your VSTi effect chain (i.e. the effect chain that makes the sounds), if it is located below, this will not work!
Now, this will only allow you to increase the pitch, in order to decrease the pitch follow all the steps as above, but instead set the “Input Channel” to 3 and the “Transpose” to -12.
Your final results will look like this:
One more step before this will work. Go into the MIDI editor, select all notes you want to sound higher and press Ctrl+F2. This will pop up a window, look for the drop down that says “Channel” and set it to 2. Do the same for the notes you want to sound lower, but set them to channel 3.
This can also be used to increase/decrease notes by 2 octaves, just double the semitone value.
