I am almost done with a custom and the EXPERT difficulty is really easy. I mean some instruments kinda look like they are playing EASY. So what should I do to the notes to make them play for a lower difficulty? Or should I just leave them the same and copy them to the lower difficulties?

You should try and do something*, even if it is very little.

    Drums

    – Remember that medium should not have any 3 note hits, and easy should never have anything paired with the kick.

    Guitar/Bass

    – Remember that medium should have reduced Orange notes, and easy should have reduced Blue/Orange

    Keys

    – For medium and easy, try to thin out any chords (3 -> 2, 2 -> 1).

Something to think about for easy. While the difficulties for this website might be skewed, it was always a general idea that a big number of players use medium difficulty. You want to make sure medium and hard have reductions enough to be welcoming for players of that difficulty. Easy, you can make as easy as you want. The difference between easy and medium can be small a lot of times, and the general mantra is that:

Make easy as easy as you want. Players can usually just go up to medium if they find it too easy.

thanks for the input. if you wanted to see what I was talking about then you can check my thread. its the song “Smack That.” I went ahead and reduced them to what i thought was necessary because I didnt get any input for like 6 hours lol.

      1) If you need a less than 6 hours turnaround you need a paid service… <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>

      2) I spent part of the morning helping you and it all ended with “Nevermind, I didn’t use it”. That doesn’t really lead to more help.

i just couldnt get what you were wanting me to do. I just needed to know why it wasnt working out and what I was doing wrong. Between our conversations back and forth I was doing little by little and i ended up finishing it when you told me to look up the docs.

What instruments were you looking for help reducing with?

Mainly drums but guitar and bass would be great too.

I’ll take a look while I’m on my lunch in like 15 minutes. Gotta love an hour lunch with not much to do (so I usually chart anyways ha).

      I wish I had that kind of time. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />

I sent you a PM which has the corrections and more information. I would run through the bass chart again too it seemed a bit off note-wise.

Also, yeah I wish I could chart that much too. When I first start I had a lot more free time… now I chart a bit during my lunch while eating, and then like 4 hours on two or three weeknights. Just a lot less free time recently, and I can only section off part of that for charting to still do other things =/ ha

Thanks for the info. Its just the tempo mapping that annoys me the most. If every song started with a tempo map then I would have so many customs done lol

As long as it stays within the rules of reductions, you don’t really need to reduce it. The rules for Guitar/Bass in a regular 4/4 time signature song at a regular-ish tempo are are:

Hard: no more than seven 8th notes per measure, 1/16th gap between end of sustain and next note

Medium: no more than four 4th notes per measure, 3/16th gap between end of sustain and next note

Easy: no more than two 2th notes per measure, 4th gap between end of sustain and next note

Something I tend to do in cases where Hard and Expert are identical though is to shorten the sustains on Hard to have a 8th gap between the end of it and the next note, that way there is a actual scoring difference and is slightly easier without being simpler to play directly. Also, wrapping Medium and Easy to avoid big jumps is of course something that should always be done unless your song only have 3 or less pitches.

For Drums, removing double cymbal/tom hits on Medium and Easy and making them single handed hits is also a method to create a minor difference.

Thanks that gives more of an idea how to reduce myself and do it better
