EDIT: I’ve decided to change this thread so that a certain user may just post whatever he wants in one thread. This way he no longer has any reason to derail any other threads with whatever comes to his head. Below is a quote from an article from an earlier discussion on the Sonic Movie that is being produced.

So they’re making a Sonic the Hedgehog movie. No, not that 1990’s OVA where Sonic totally flips off Eggman/Robotnik/Roosevelt/whatever you call the guy with the mustache. Not

, either. No, an actual, full-length Hollywood film with real actors and stuff.

      From IGN:

Sonic the Hedgehog is finally getting a movie — in the form of a live-action/CG-animated hybrid.

Upright Citizens Brigade alumni Evan Susser and Van Robichaux are writing the screenplay for the Sonic film, which will be produced by Neal Moritz (the Fast & Furious franchise, 21 Jump Street). Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marza Animation Planet are teaming up to deliver the feature, based on the video game franchise that started on the SEGA Genesis back in 1991.

The screenwriters are currently writing the CBS series How to Grow Up, along with a feature film called Fist Fight, starring New Girl’s Max Greenfield, and a live-action treatment of The Jetsons.

The film will reportedly capture, according to an official press release, “Sonic’s irreverent tone and spirit, reuniting him with some of the most revered and infamous characters of the franchise, including the evil Dr. Eggman.”

The chili-dog-lovin’ Hedgehog has starred in a 1990s OVA, but never made the jump to North American theatres before. The character’s been no stranger to the small-screen however, starring in several animated series (the most recent being Sonic X, and the next entry — Sonic Boom — set to air on Cartoon Network this fall).

“Sony Pictures has had great success with hybrid animated and live-action features,” says Marza Animation Planet CEO Masanao Maeda, “and we’re confident that this collaboration will bring a fresh take to Sonic, while still capturing everything that the fans love about him.””

Sonic has also been host to multiple ongoing comic book series at Archie Comics — with a flagship series that has maintained its original numbering throughout its 20-plus-year run. In that series, the Sonic mythology is surprisingly extensive and incorporates sci-fi themes, notably being set on “Moebius,” a fictional dystopian future of our own Earth!

Sony’s Sonic the Hedgehog film doesn’t yet have a release date.

So what are your opinions on this proposed film? Do you think it’ll be a smash hit, or do you think it’ll sink like most video game movies? Discuss below!

I actually think this has potential , I do however think that this film should be original and the sequals (Yes they already have sequals planned) to be based on every console game from Adventure onwards.

Judging on what I think most fictional cities in the series are actually US cities in the far future considering the United Federation from space looks exactly like the USA.

      Thus…

Central City-San Francisco with added touches of NYC and a structure resembling Big Ben can be seen in Mission Street close to the bottom of the screen (Mission Street is a real location in SF)

Station Square-New York City or Miami with NYC elements added. The skyline is based off of Vancouver,Canada

      Westopolis-San Diego or Chicago

Empire City( presumbly in the nation )-EXTREMELY likely to be NYC with elements of Chicago and Seattle added

Grand Metropolis-Original though the fact that it is a green eco-friendly futuristic city might be the direct opposite of Futurama’s version of L.A. whitch is extremely polluted and thus it might be Los Angeles.

Several fan universes have a city called San Santos to substitute for a L.A. count in.

Anyways I’m going to give the movie a instant 10 just because I love Sonic to death (OK I have to admit it Sonic.exe was fan made creepypasta that was half great half bullshit thingy.)

Unless it will have a dude with silly hair pointing at people and proclaiming “Monkey!” it won’t be as good as the Super Mario film. But oh well, as long as Uwe Boll or Michael Bay don’t get their greasy little hands of the film it at least has a chance rather than being doomed from the start I guess <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />

Agreed , but still I think it has potential and I like the “United Federation is a future U.S.A.” theory would be a great idea for the films setting.

Oh and these are people known to live in the U.F.

      Mr. President

G.U.N. Commander (Named Abraham Tower in the comics)

      Lil’ Kate

      Boss

      Def Big

      Charles

      Elizabeth

So I’m going to elaborate a bit on what I said on the other thread, since I think there was some confusion there. When I said the Sonic games have a loosely veiled plot, I didn’t mean that you couldn’t connect any of the two games together. The games have similar themes and characters, such as the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic and Co., etc. But my point was that not everything that happens in each game is brought up in each consecutive game. For example, while Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are closely tied, something like Sonic and the Black Knight only has the loosest reference to those games by having it’s characters. It sort of works like most cartoons: One week the characters embark on this grand adventure that is neatly wrapped up within the episode, then the next week a separate adventure happens, the previous one is never mentioned as if it never happened, but the characters and central themes are pretty much the same. This is not a bad thing by any circumstance. In fact, that is one thing about Sonic that I actually like, is that there is wiggle room to experiment with new things without being bogged down into a central plot, so we can have those experimental titles like Sonic Spinball and Lost Worlds.

I am saying that something like that rarely translates well into film. Who knows, maybe the film will be a surprise hit and be 201X’s equivalent to The LEGO Movie: A product tie-in that no one expects to be good that ends up being amazing. But seeing how it’s made by Sony Pictures (who have made such CGI/Live Action Hybrids as The Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks) my expectations aren’t as high. Let’s just hope it’s not Smurfs territory.

It flows from game to game. While it may not appear to have references to Adventure you can very clearly tell witch game comes next by release dates or hidden easter eggs.

Did you read my post about the U.F. is future U.S.A. theory? I do agree and hope that it’s not Smurfs territory (it is going to be darker so I doubt a dark movie would be in Smurfs territory but I could always be wrong).

Well, there goes my optimism. Hopefully there will be no Stockholm Syndrome puns or violence against pregnant women at least. Or people eating their own shit.

100% honest, I threw up a little in my mouth.

Anyway, while I am not a Sonic fan, I may go see this film when he gets out, because I like watching movies and I imagine a movie based off a property this big would be a big release. If it’s good, it’ll be a good surprise, like The LEGO Movie. If it’s bad, I at least get a kick out of bad movies, as long as it’s not insultingly bad as the previously mentioned Smurfs films.

I can very much see them either filming in those locations you mentioned (except for the one that’s only appeared in fan lore because fan-made stuff won’t have much of a holding on an official product) and calling them by their respective names or just making the film take place in modern, real-world settings. If I had to pick an ideal scenario for this, even though I’m not really big on the Sonic stuff, I’d probably have the film loosely based off of Sonic Adventure 1, or maybe a similar plot with some mild modern updates. Nothing to the extremes of, say, Dragonball Evolution, which put the home-raised 13-year-old boy Goku into a high school where he was bullied and shit.

I did not think that would cause people to throw up.

Let’s just say I am not a big fan of the scatological humor, especially to the degree of one eating feces. I can take it in small doses if there’s proper buildup and a punchline that is something somewhat unrelated to poop itself (like maybe a setup where someone is trying to hold a fart because he fears it’ll be really loud in a crowded airport, only to result in a quiet whimper no one hears). But yeah, not a fan of people eating poop, sorry.

They already confirmed live-action/CGI. I imagine it’ll probably be rather extensive on the CGI, though, probably like the Star Wars Prequels with entire areas made in CGI.

Did you know that Station Squares skyline in the CGI opening before the main menu is based of Vancouver , Canada?

I personally hope they bring back Sally The Squirrel or whatever her name is from that serious cartoon and make Dr. Robotnick talk about “pingas”, then it would be all worth it.

You are gonna love a Adam Sandler flick called “8 Crazy Nights” in that case, it’s just as cool as you are and it features reindeer eating their own fecies. Truly, the best Christma… erm, Holidays cartoon ever made.
