So, in a week we’ll have our first Rock Band party with my friends since forever ago. The problem is that one of my friends had his drum kit die on him, and he was the only one of us that had drums. So now I’m trying to find drum kits locally and hell, they’re all US$120+, except for the RB1 drum kit, which I can get new for about $40. Now, we’re certainly not expert-level players, so my question is: is it worth it to buy the RB1 kit if we’re not playing on expert, or do I wait until I get some more money (so next Saturday there won’t be drums) and buy some other kit?

The RB1 kit is okay if a bit loud, it might break after a while once you go up to high-tier Expert songs but until then it does the job. I don’t think it supports cymbals/Pro Drums though so keep that in mind.

Thanks for the answer! I think only the friend who had a drum kit played pro, the rest of us peasants played normal drums, so I think we’ll be ok.

I’m not a drum wizard myself, but I feel like the RB3 drums are more accurate.

They are considerably louder(imo) but if that’s not an issue, they’ll be fine for your use. Back in the day, I covered them with cut up mouse pads(lol they’re probably more expensive than the drums!) or big tube socks kind of rubber banded over the pads to help with the noise.

Oh, we already had our (hopefully first of many!) RB party, and the drums were perfectly fine, although a bit loud as I was told. We don’t play much expert so they’ll be fine, and certainly I dont want to go to the hassle to import a RB3 drum kit (as no intruments past RB2/GHWT were released here).

I highly suggest just gluing some mouse pads over the drums on the RB1 kit. It helps tremendously with noise.

I don’t know, the noise helps drown out our awful singing… XD
